The only benefit this might have is to prevent underage smoking. That in itself may help prevent people from taking up smoking in the first place. |

Looks like I am going to have to take up smoking. the Government banned smoking in pubs and now pubs are empty most of the time. Smoking supports the NHS - revenue generated by smoking is currently 22 billion. Why don't the Government get on with more important things and leave personal decisions up to individuals. All a permit will do is make more people smuggle cigarettes. |

Outrageous !!! With 100 plus people a year dying because of dirty hospitals that is a cheek. I don't think it will happen.
Next fish n chip shops will be forced to close because there are too many fatties.
See ... This is what happens when one government stays in for too long.

Thats just completely ******* unnecessary. Its not about the money, this is just an attempt to humiliate and inconveniance people who choose to smoke
"He is openly bragging that he wants to make the form as complex as possible to fill in."
Haha I can make you all do whatever I want because smoking increases the risk of lung cancer

Cigarettes should be banned altogether-full stop.! I'm not sure why the government is doing that, maybe they are hoping with all the trouble people will have to go to they will just stop smoking.
Imagine where there are no cigarettes available in the UK, our future generations will grow healty with no damage to their lungs etc from cigarettes (at least they will not get cancer that way!). At the end of the day smoking has no benefits, its not like drinking water or eating healthy food, there is no point to smoking apart from eventual death due to cancer of some sort.
If it cant be banned altogther then i think the forms are a good idea. Walking past my local secondary school i often get kids ask me to buy them cigarettes, my answer is always NO. There are plenty of people out there though who wouldnt care that they are only kids and would supply them with cigarettes.
If you are smoker though i did not mean to offend you in any way.

I think they should have the same approach with alcohol and fast food since obesity and alcohol related problems are weighing down on the health system as much as smoking.
They should also have photographs of damage organs on every bottle of alcohol and every cheeseburger. |

It is to stop underage smokers.
The scheme, as everything in life, cossts money.
They can either use tax paid from everyone, or get just the smokers to pay for it.
I think its completely fair. The goverment won;t make any money from this, it will only cover its costs to stop underage kids from starting to smoke. |
