Oh my God What do you think???Why do men lie so much?

i was just reversing my 26 ft camper into my father in laws front garden while my husband directed me in.Everything was fine i had it backed in nice and straight and my husband was at the back of it guiding me in.i also have a camera on the back of it and asked my husband.. is it ok so for me to work my way back?? he said you have loads of space love work away. I put the camper into reverse and heard a hugh smash.He failed to see there was ashelter above the front door above his head and i smashed into it..NOW I WOULDNT MIND THE DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED AS IT WAS MY CAMPER. his father came running out of the house and asked was everything ok.. He LIED to his face and in front of me telling him he had told me to stop..i feel like such a fool and would never like to face them again.not because of the incident but because of the lies.I asked him why did he make me look like a fool and just admit it was an accident.His reply was simply WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT. i am not talking to him now.

My "hit" is that your husband's response to his dad was an emotional response (not a rational response). Now what the underlying emotions are that triggered such an answer is anyones guess.

Some who have answered here have suggested he's frightened of his father ... could be. Or maybe your husband felt stupid and his father used to call him stupid ... it's anyones guess -- and even your husband may not *know* (consciously) what "the reason" is/was.

One thing I know is that a person can't give a "rational answer" for an "emotional response". Said differently, there's likely not an answer that your husband can give you as to why he said and did what he did that will make "rational" sense to you (or anyone else).

It's like when someone tells you about a dream they had last night. As soon as we hear the word "dream" we give the other person "permission" to say ANYTHING they want about the dream, without any of it making ANY "rational sense" at all. It doesn't matter that one minute they are in a restaurant eating, and the next second their brother (who they don't have) is driving them home to Australia. Whatever they say is OK. In the "real world", we want things to "make sense".

My guess is that your husband KNOWS that what he said and did "doesn't make any sense". My guess he knows he hurt you. My guess is he feels stupid, because he knows what he said and did doesn't make any sense to HIM!!!

And as a result ... he doesn't know what to say or do now ... so he barks out some words "WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT" -- hoping that somehow "it will all go away".

I would cheerlead for you to talk to him -- when you are ready, and to not look for (or ask for) an "answer" that is gonna "make sense" to you, as I don't think there is one.

That doesn't mean that he ought not genuinely express his regret and apology to you. It may be difficult for him to talk about about it -- 'cuz guys tend to deal in "rational" stuff, and are often less comfortable dealing with the emotional stuff -- and this isn't rational.

But there does need to be talking ... and he needs to know how you feel.

Ange, Men lie to save face. They do not want to admit they are lost or that they are wrong. Get past it. To save your marriage, do not let his lying get to you. It is not worth it. Unless it is something that will physically endanger someone, don't sweat it. It will only cause you aggravation and grief. You know what was said and how it happened, do not feel so foolish... remember he lied and HE is the fool. Not talking to him is not a punishment... talking to him is the real punishment! Good luck!

He might be the type of person who never wants to be wrong. This could be the case with his father around, probably due to some issues he has with his family.

Sounds like he's not as loyal to you as you'd like him to be. I would've confessed. Make him tell the truth to that man. If he doesnt, then you should question his loyalty to you.

Well, the fact of the matter is that he did not want to face what his dad might say to him because he was an idiot and did not mention what was above his head. He was not concerned about him getting mad at you probably because "dad" would go easier on you since you are the wife, and well, now it is just another joke about "women" drivers. CHILL if this is the only incident of lying. Yeah, your pride is hurt but then your husband did not get berated by his dad. HOWEVER, if he lies constantly he has some major kissing *** to do to make up for his stupid lies.

Ange I wouldn't dwell too much on it. He didn't want to lose face in front of his dad. Men are stupid like this. You will laugh about it in a couple of weeks time. Forget it and put it down to mens stupidity.
