Oklahoma wants to give the death penalty to child molesters... is this right?

I was molested by my brother when I was 13 and while I would like to say yes, I can't. I've forgiven my brother since then, but my forgiving him doesn't mean that I've suddenly forgot about the entire incident or that I approve of what happened. I think this is not the corse to take. I do think that harsher penalties should be in place though. There was one case that I was watching on Court TV and this guy raped a minor and only got 6 months for it. That's a slap on the wrist. I don't this would be grounds for you to use the word murder though. These child molesters in a sense have murdered their victims, because I and many others will never be the same. I use the word murder because that is exactly what it seems like because they kill your soul and any hope you had for the future.

Absolutely. I have dealt with people that have been assaulted. The damage is worse than what happens with murder.

The law isn't dealing with first timers this is more a habitutal offender law.

I'm strongly in favor of the death penalty, but I think that child molester's get punished plenty in prison. I say give them a life of being raped by inmates. That's a better punishment.

If we must have a death penalty, it should be reserved for people who have been convicted of the premeditated killing of another person. There are too many cases where a person convicted of a crime in this country has been proven innocent. If the person is in prison, at least our society can partially rectify the error. That's pretty hard to do if the poor guy is in his grave.

Death penalty for child molesters is an easy escape.
Someone so sick to do anything like that to a child deserves something different.

I'm usually quite liberal, but in this case. . . If someone violates a child, honestly, I might support this or life imprisonment. Most states have minimal penalties for this, pedophiles have the highest recidivism rate of any crime and yet they are sent free.

I say ship them all off to an island (if they try to swim to escape, let the sharks have them). Have little huts, with no running water, some seeds for planting, and a few cows, pigs, chickens, etc... Give them the tools they need to survive, and walk away. Let them survive on their own, without taxpayers having to pay for their room and food, medical, and lawyer bills. Lastly, let them all bugger each other, so that no child ever has to become another victim of this highly repetitive criminal mentality.

There... No death penalty, no tax $ paying for their life behind bars, kids safe.

I would like to say yes, but the only crimes that should be punishable by death are high treason and murder.

just for your future reference: The word murder refers to the act of taking human life in violation of the law. The word you should be using in the context you are discussing is execute.

Child Molestors are horrible creatures. I say creatures because there's nothing human about molesting children, just like those who kill innocent people.

Now if the person who did the molesting is mentally ill, then he or she is excused, otherwise, he should be severely punished, possibly killed. The idea is that child rape is a horrible crime and the death penalty would be a good deterent.

Death penalty is not justice.

But it won't go anywhere. It will only get worse.
One day they will be putting people to death because of their religious beliefs.

In the mean time if you disagree with this, write the Governor.

remember the original idea behind the death penalty was that no one who wants to live would commit the crime but we all know there are those who think they can get away with it,so in a real world you try to find a punishment that fits the crime,what would that be for a child molester,molest him no thanks kick it out of him,that would not work as nor would castration,so whats left

let me tell you something..if i have a child and someone molests my child i would kill them myself no matter what the situation is. I think they should execute in more states. I would probally hang them in the middle of my town for everyone to laugh at..they deserve what they get..and no im not psycho but thats the way that i feel

Death penalty is never right under any situation for following reasons:

(1) It's not reversible (what if the person turns out to be innocent - solved 25 years later....)
(2) We can not give life, so we have no right to take it.
(3) There is not strong indication, that death penalty reduces the rate of crimes.

What would you want to happen to the cruel SOB that victimized a child that you cared about. If you think that a violent offender doesn't deserve whatever punishment he is given, ask yourself this: Did that victim deserve what happened to him?

This is just what I would expect from Oklahoma. Surprised Texas is not doing this first. Wonder if we'll burn them at the stake or be happy with public hangings ?
