Opinions on underage smoking, Lower the age to 16 yes or no?

oh i can answer this ,,when i was 14 i started smoking im now 42 now i take breathing treatments 2 times a day 2 pills whole bunch inhalers and i cough its gross, my advice never pick up smoking i cant walk very far i cant have any fun im just waiting to die,,and i haven't got cancer.YET treat the body good its the only one you have.

The same reason why you can't drive by your self at 16.
The same reason why you can't make decisions at 16.
The same reason why you can't drink alcohol at 16.

Because at 16 you aren't mature enough and will make stupid decisions. Whether they are broken or not, if you get caught you will pay the consequences. The law is the law!

Those are the cancer years. If you smoke while you are still growing you are 5x more likely to develop lung cancer than other smokers.

'Cuz you're not thinking straight, kid. Your brain literally is too underdeveloped at 16 to allow you to fully appreciate the consequences of your actions. It's that simple. While we can't stop all the mental defectives who feel compelled to enrich the wealthy tobacco industry, who never spend spend a dime augmenting all the additional health care smokers invariably require, we can at least give the youngest ones a fighting chance. Some might wonder why this dangerous stuff is being kept from them and actually figure it out.

Yes you are correct, there is an age limit for smoking as well as drinking, voting, gambling and various other things. I personally don't think the legal age should be changed. It is set in place to keep minors from harming their health and bla bla bla. It's kind of the same thing as banning smoking from public establishments for example bars. The bar thing doesn't make much sense but I understand that not everyone wants to be around smokers.I understand what you are saying but clearly smoking is not healthy.and is a hard habit to kick. I should know, I smoke.

By 18 your legally an adult and are supposed to understand what your doing to yourself. By Sixteen you are easy to get hooked on the cigarettes,and that's bad.

Personally I think cigarettes are terrible and they should be outlawed at any age. I know that will never happen though. I think having a lower age for buying cigarettes will only encourage more teens to smoke, since at 16 you are much more likely to be "rebellious" and start smoking. Sure, those who are underage often find a way to get cigarettes anyway but I think it's still important for the age to be higher (maybe they should even up it to 21).

Because those adults probably wish they didn't start smoking so soon, and hopefully with tougher regulations on teen smoking there will be a decrease in the number of kids who start.

I just watched my dad die a week ago of a smoking related problem. Its not something you want to get in the habit of. Seriously.

Kids are more influenced at 15 or 16. and your body is still developing so it's more harmful to your body.
Smoking is bad for you at any age, and it's so expensive i don't know why anyone would want to do it.

Hate to preach, but you really should quit. There are literally no benefits (no, you really don't look cooler, unless you're under the impression we're still in the 20's) and the list of bad things it does to you just keeps growing.

smoking is bad 4 u no mater wht age. i live in a house full of smokers and i also started smokeing at the age 14 and now im 14 and have cancer.so i think that it should increase the age insted of decrease the age that way less people would smoke!!!!!
