My Dad says that when I turn 18 I have to continue living with him until I have graduated. Is this true? Wouldn't I be considered a legal adult and able to be in control of my own actions? I make excellent grades, have good behavior, and haven't gotten in trouble for anything major, or minor even. I think I've proved myself responsible. I've researched a bit on the internet and have read in some places that he cannot do this and other places that he can...Could someone clarify this if you know for sure?
Also, I am 17, is it possible I could live with my Mother and not have to visit my Father at all? I doubt that one, just checking though.

in pa.no. as for the second,he has a right to see you.maybe he just loves you and wants you to be the best you can be.seems like he has done good so far as have you.what is a few extra months? even though this may seem like a life time to you.trust me,it isn't.good luck. |

at 17 you could move out most places. but wait! how you gonna live, who pays the bills? not easy to go to school full time, and work enough hours to support yourself. so go to mom's, if she'll have you, never talk to dad again, if you don't want. or hang in there and make the old man proud. up to you at this point. |

The age of majority in PA is 18. That means, when you turn 18, you are pretty much free to do what you want. No contract between your parents (their divorce agreement) will bind your actions.
That said, stay in school. It sounds like your Dad cares about you, and who wants to change high schools in your senior year? Get your diploma. If you want any future of making anywhere near decent cash, you'll need it. |
