I got in a traffic accident today (girl hit me from the back). I was asking for her insurance information and she started yelling at me. We cursed at each other back and forth and than she came to my car and punched me in the face and pulled my hair (I am a female too). I have had surgery for a deviated septum in the past - and my nose is still throbbing from her punch in the face. In addition, I feel like she pulled out chunks of my hair and my head is still sore. I called the cops and also had a couple of witnesses. Before the cops came, she banged on my windows again (trying to hit me again) and than she drove off. I have her license plate number as well. The cops said that she may just get something equivalent to a speeding ticket. Is this true? I am very shaken up by this incident and I feel pain- although I did not call an ambulance at the time? what do you guys think?

Take photos of your injuries, if any are visible.
The problem here is that without witnesses, they cops tend to be reluctant to press any charges because the other person will also likely claim that you hit her, and then it becomes your word against hers. Perhaps from now on you will know that one should remain civil and not escalate a confrontation to where punches start getting thrown. |

See a doctor, bill her , sue her in small claims court. talk to a sheriff about this. also tell her insurance company if she has one. |

I think you should speak with someone in the district attorney's office about pressing charges for simple assault and leaving the scene of an accident. (I'm not sure what that officer was referring to, but it's up to the DA's office, anyway.)
You can sue her in small claims court for "pain and suffering" and "punitive damages," even without medical bills. However, I'd get that surgeon to check your nose, just in case. If your medical bills end up exceeding the jurisdictional limit of a small claims case, speak with a personal injury attorney. Civil suits have many variables, though, so don't hire one unless they'll take you case on a contingency.
I hope this has taught you to never to escalate a confrontation, especially with a stranger. If that woman had had a gun in her car ...
