I absolutely hate the idea of abortions, but
I think they should be legal.
Old cliche: You cannot legislate morality.
Simply put: Society has no right to dictate what a
person does to their own body, be it suicide, drugs
or abortion. Yes, there are implications and
society has a vested interest in the outcome, but
the personal invasion far outweighs the flighty
nature of law and religion.
If we did not believe that was true, than society
would also have the ability to dictate who CANNOT
have children - and nobody is talking about that.
However, the state has an extremely vested interest
in controlling who has children. If children are born
to richer parents, the state is less likely to have to
pay to feed them or pay for their medical care. Can
you imagine the outcry if we said that nobody with
an income less than $50000 could have a child?
Moreover, it has very very little ability to enforce
its restrictions on what the individual does to their
own body. If someone wants to commit suicide
badly enough, you can't stop them. We haven't
solved the drug problem in the U.S. And yes, you
can give yourself an abortion, though it is very
very dangerous.
In short, making it illegal simply makes it more
dangerous. I have no interest in going back to the
"bad old days" pre Roe V. Wade where people
were coming with massive infections from badly
performed abortions. It will happen.
If a woman doesn't want to have a baby, that is her
right. Period. The state has no right whatsoever
to force her to do so. Period.
That she would want to terminate/nullify/murder/slaughter
an unborn innocent is between her and her maker. |

This is a tough one... and you will get many differing opinions. Although I'm not necessarily "for" abortion, I am completely for "choice".
I'll even go as far as to say that men shouldn't even get a vote on what we do with our bodies... how's that for controversial?
Oh, and it should remain legal - my opinion.

I think that abortion should definitely be legal. Whos to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her own body? I mean really. I don't think there is anything wrong with getting an abortion in general, but I don't think it should be used as a form of birth control continuously. |

I am for keeping it legal and controlled. Completley on the basis that for the time it was illegal in this country women would attempt to give themselves one or go to people who could barely be considered a doctor often resulting in internal bleeding infection, and death. I don't think that any one who has ever had an abortion can honestly say the act didn't bother them. It is an unimaginably diffucult decision.
However I am a man and will never have to make the decision. So I also believe that any man that has a view against it or for it needs to leave it alone. It is the one issue we shouldn't touch. |

I think that it is a personal issue and that people should start asking women who have had the abortions if they think it should be legal or not. If you have never been through it, then I really do not care to hear any ones opinion on it. Because you can never understand. |

its a persons decision to get an abortion no one can tell them not to do it or vise versa, so i say its the circomstance if it is or is not a good desicion its the persons choice and they have to live with it i feel bad for some like my cousin got raped and she didnt tell no one and she was pregnant so she had an ob. she made her own choice and she regrets it and it was seven years ago next friday |

Abortion is a good idea when termination of the pregnancy will save the life or health of the patient. It's also apropriate in cases called 'selective reduction' which increases the odds of a multiple pregnancy resulting in at least one live birth, and for other legitimate medical purposes.
I am pro-death.
Legal. Even though I accept that 'human life' could be argued to begin at almost any point after conception, carrying a pregnancy to term is a non-trivial risk to the mother, and taking such a risk to save a life is heroism. You can't legislate heroism. Though I see nothing wrong with vocally encouraging it. |

My Opinion and this is my opinion only. Abortion should only be performed during the first tri-mester and only in the event of rape, incest or danger to the mothers life. After the 1st tri-mester it should never be done unless a threat to the mothers health exists. Abortion should NOT be used as a form of birth control. Again, this is only my opinion, you need to make this decision on your own. Good Luck and may you make the right decision. |

When the mother is a rape victim or her life is in danger. Beyond that...put your child up for adoption.
We don't want killers getting the death penalty because it is inhumane, but we allow innocents to die....go figure... |

For be it for me to agree with George Bush, but I think he's got this one right:
I believe that an abortion should not be permitted unless the mother is in imminent danger from the pregnancy or from giving birth. It's not fair to cut off a life because it's inconvenient or cost effective - there are plenty of adults that would qualify for euthanasia by those criterion. |

At what point does it become a human child - when it's halfway through the birthing canal? Maybe women should have the choice of terminating the life of the fetus even after it's left the womb - only after the cord is cut does it become human. After all, since it's still attached to the woman, it's really her body and she should have the privacy and choice - as long as her doctor goes along with it.

clearly when the mother is REALLY in danger, and varified by an outside doctor, not the abortion doctor who has a financial interest in it. Unfortunately, it's being used as a method of birth control, abortion was never meant for that.I have a real problem with abortions after the first trimester. The simple fact is late 2nd and 3rd trimester births occur every day, and in many cases the fetus lives (perhaps in an incubator), but does live. Late term abortins are indeed murder, in my book. |

i think abortion is a good idea when a woman makes the decision that aborting her pregnancy would be better than having an unwanted baby.
i personally am against abortions but i don't think it is my decision to tell other women what to do with their pregnancies..... that's between them and God.
even though i don't condone it..... i believe women should have the right to choose what to do with their own bodies......
there is somebody out there bigger than all of us that will judge us all!!!!! |

I am for people being more responsible in preventing pregnancies.
I am for politicians not making this a political issue when it is clear that Roe v. Wade will never be overturned.
I am against the act of having an abortion, but I do not feel there should be a law against it. |

I think abortions are bad and personally are against them. However, if a women or girl is raped and wishes not to bare the child of the horrible man. I don't think she should be expected to have his child unless she can handle it. No one should ever have the say so in that situation. I think abortions should be legal and remain an option for women. Many fathers just leave anyways. |

I don't think abortion is ever a "good" idea. I think it can be the best in a list of terrible choices. I know of no one (including myself) who is for abortions. As a man I couldn't begin to imagine having to make the choice to have one. I see it as possibly the most terrible, personal decision any one could make. I think they should be legal and left up to the women who feel that they're the best option for them, and their doctors. |
