Yes, I do hate conformity. Sometimes it is helpful to be able to group things/people together by certain aspects; but I do feel that you can lose a piece of yourself by trying to conform.

Yes I do, and Bush and Co. spend most of there time trying to get people to conform to what they think you should be, "Do this or your un-American", Do that or well be attacked by terrorists, Give me a break! I'm a non-conformist and I always will be, I don't need anybody to tell me how to think, unlike conservatives that don't know how to think for them selves, they need Rush, Ann Coulter, and Fox (faux) News to tell them how to think. And this Conservative methodology extends beyond our own borders, Because Bush and Co. think the whole world should be just as they want them....Be nice to America or well bring democracy to your country!!! Maybe its time the rest off the world just came out and told the administration MIND THERE OWN BUSINESS!!!!

Conformity is not brainwashing us; it is rather a result of all the "toys" most people spend so much time on, particulary the internet and television. The problem is that we have this widespread homogenized pop culture whose common ideas are driven by mass media and marketing. Since there is no real variation (with a few huge companies owning the lion's share internet and tv consumerism), people choose to accept it for fear of being alienated. These same devices greatly diminish creativity and thinking by telling you what to think and how to react.

That comment about nonconformists conforming to their own group is ridiculous. Show me common qualities of truly nonconformal ideas? What is the nonconformist culture which is and what similarities do they share, other than being just nonconformist? If there is such a thing as a nonconformist culture, the commonalities would be greatly eclipsed by the share of uniqueness and creativity.

What are you talking about? How is conformity brainwashing us...turning us into computers....that makes no sense. Are you suggesting that everyone is the same? Go outside and take a walk and ask the same question to 50 people and you won't get the same answer twice. Do you live in a cave?

Conformity in small doses is a good thing. For example, we all "conform" to basic rules of living: we don't kill or steal, we tend to stay in family groups, we work in order to survive. Conformity of dress or speech is different as that is designed to suppress ones natural inclinations; that is not a good thing.

You know, everybody wants to be a rebel...everybody wants to be a nonconformist. Why? Who knows. To conform in a civilized society is far more difficult, and requires alot more self-control. I think there are much fewer conformists than non-conformists.

yes i do.....but what i hate most about it is that we succumb to it,while trying to be like the system wants us to be....and we generally restrain ourselves from doing things we would like to but we don't,in order to avoid criticism or being looked at in a mysterious way....geez you 're right!

Would you throw out conformity on the road while driving, or should everyone just do their own thing? Do you want to throw out conformity when dealing with your money at the bank or should the bank manage your account differently and as it sees fit?
Should the laws be administered differently for different races and cultures?

Should policemen have to wear the same uniform and conform to the same rules or should they be allowed to dress as they want to and treat the citizens as they feel like, with out conforming rules?

Could it be that when it is something that YOU do not like, then it should be changed so that you can do what YOU want to do and to He&^ with everyone else?
