Probation Violation question?

Im on probation in grandville Michigan for shoplifting, and I just got a dui in grand rapids Michigan. So I violated my probation. I go to court on Thursday for the dui, and I got to court some time next month for probation violation. I have the "worst" judge there is in grandville, he will slam you with whatever he can think of. My question is what are his options for probation violation? Some people say I will go to jail for 15 days, have fines, and extended probation. Other people are saying I could go to jail for a few months.. No one really knows. Does anyone have any other input or if you have violated your probation ( for the first time) what did they do?

Also, what would they do if I left the state for good?

Actually, you are looking at possibly going to jail for the period of time you had suspended on the shoplifting, plus whatever the time is on the dui. They will have to be consecutive (stacked) b/c you were on probation at the time the dui ws committed. Now, with that being said, there are also a lot of other possibilities and sentencing options available. (house arrest, community service, more probation, etc). Each state is different so it is hard to tell. I am not in Michigan, but that is what could happen in my state.

Don't leave the state. Face the music and get it over with. You don't want to run away forever.

You would likely go to prison for the remainder of your shoplifting sentence + the length of your DUI sentence.

If you left the state for good, that might be another probation violation. They'd still want you in Michigan court.

The judge has a lot of options, from no jail time to the full backup time (what you were intially sentenced, but got suspended).

My son was revoked for a positive THC test in January and had his sentencing last week and received five months with time served counting towards the five months. Good luck.

I hope you stop drinking and driving now. (I'll save the lecture) I was on papers for my 1st DUI when I got my 2nd. I was given 3 months in work release and maxed out my time. Then I got a 3rd one.. By the time I was 21.. I decided to just get my time done. But Ive seen people in the same situation just get their supervision increased. If you go to rehab... or get a evaluation done it will prove to him you want help. (If your po hasn't already suggested it....) Im on community corrections now (like the worst probation) and got violated for obstruction of justice (failing to snitch) I mean its up to your po.. what your po tells the judge... Usually DUI and shoplifting probation's are separate jurisdictions for probation (shoplifting being city, dui being county.. in my city) Id see them just upping your supervision, do your mandatory few days for the DUI itself which varies from state to state.) Basically your fate is already made up over it and there isn't much point in stressing over it. Just prepare yourself and your obligations before court and keep in contact with your court represinitive and PO because they will be able to give you a better idea as far as how much time your facing. (I did almost a year in county before I got my act together.. and decided to grow up.) County here is HELL... so... youll make it ;-)

my ex was on probation for a dui and got caught driving without his license since they took it away. for violating probation he got 30 days in jail and more community service

Usually when u break probation, u go back to jail and serve the rest of your time. Now u have another charge on top of that...good goin. And leaving the state doesnt help, u cant run away from it. U would have a warrent for your arrest and as soon as u applied for a new DL in the new state, bam, they gotcha...U did the crime so do the time..just own it.
