Punishment after overdose?

situation:
let's say two girls, both minors, are doing prescription drugs that were not prescribed to them.
one minor overdoses, and the other calls 911. an ambulance comes and takes both girls to the hospital.
the girl who overdosed is saved, after having her stomach pumped.

what would happen next? would the girls be sent from the hopital to a rehabilitation center? would they be sent to juvie without going to rehab? what would the punishment be? would they be more focused on punishment or treatment?

the overdose wasn't intentional. they were trying to get high.

It depends how the authorities want to treat it. It is unlikely to lead to criminal charges or "juvie".

You would definitely NOT go straight from the hospital to juvie. In the highly unlikely event someone chose to try to prosecute and send you to juvie, you would have the right to a hearing/trial first and some sort of probation would be more likely than juvie.

They would be more focused on treatment. They might be sent to a rehabilitation center, but probably not. Most likely this would be left to the parents.

it would be considered a suicide attempt (even if they were trying to get high), and after the girl got her stomach pumped, she'd be sent to a mental hospital for a minimum of 72 hours (there is a legal 72 hour hold if you are considered a danger to self or others.) if you are considered to be mentally 'unstable' (if you do anything that counts as a suicide attempt/end up in a mental hospital) it doesn't matter what drugs you have done/are doing outside of the hospital, you don't get in trouble for it.

Depending on how young minors were, main focus could be on the adults who were negligent in keeping minors away from accidental over-dose on Rx medication.

If teens, would probably want to know source of drugs. And based on that could determine if rehab or punishment is the priority. Or maybe just warning of don't take stuff you find just b/c you're curious over what it does.

Each juristiction is different. How much teen trouble / deaths there have been in community, etc.

No, they can't be sent to juvenile hall or rehab. They never did anything illegal. The parents could send the girls to rehab, but the court couldn't.

I am saying this because I wish the law was stricter to discourage this, for I lost my cousin to something like this.
