Question about gun law in Virginia - Open carry in bars...?

I was having a discussion with my friend at dinner the other day about guns. He has lots of guns and has a concealed carry permit (or whatever it is). He said that actually it is completely legal to carry a weapon openly in a bar. And hell I looked it up and he was correct.
My question is this: Is there a restriction on if you can or cannot consume alcohol while you have a gun on your person in a public place?
I personally think there should be. You can't drink and drive a car (deadly weapon as well) so the same should be the case for having a gun on you.

I agree, but if it is not a law unless something bad happens then nothing will be done to restrict the practice. I have gotten slammed by gun owers who I work with because I believe that there should be a 4 hour training session covering gun cleaning, safety and local laws as a requirement. They believe that if everybody in the bar has a gun then nothing bad will happen. |

Guns and alcohol don't mix! Virginia has very strict gun laws. I highly doubt they would allow this...if they do, that is completely stupid.
I can see some angry drunk shooting up a place because someone accidently stepped on his foot. |
