To be quick - when I turn 18, what can my parents NOT legally do for me anymore? They change my school timetables, send me to co-op instead of school, make medical appointments, sign me up for sports etc. all without my consent. When I turn 18 (in Ontario), even if I still live with them what can they NOT do for me anymore, considering I will legally be an adult? Surely at this point everything concerning me would need my signature? Thanks.

They can no longer make a contract on your behalf nor can they exercise any other legal right for you; they are no longer responsible for you in any legal sense. |

well i'm pretty sure they cant fource you into anything once you turn 18, but they also dont legally have to take care of you anymore, so they could kick you out. beware |

Co-op is good, it gives you work experience. Most kids your age like co-op and not going to school - co-op is part of school anyway, it gives you credits. Once you're 18 they cannot sign you up for sports without your consent, they cannot change your timetables but they CAN make medical appointments. Once you reached highschool 3-4 years ago you should have been doing all these things on your own. |

scroll down to page 6 - the 18 and OVER section - and see what you can do at age 18 and age 19.
The school leaving age is now 18(not 16) but otherwise everything else is still the same.

I would hope you sign a few things - the legal document making you pay rent, if you continue to live at home, as well as pay for your own food, medicine, school supplies, sporting equipment, etc. Like you said, you will be an adult - be prepared to accept the responsibilities. |
