Maybe we shouldn't. Look at what it's done to your brain. If we LEGALIZE it (note the spelling), we would effectively be lowing the IQ of society. |

Simple answer: Taxing it and regulating it will make it a cash-cow for the government. It could single-handedly lower taxes, keep social security going, etc. |

it's legalizing....maybe if you weren't stoned at the moment you could spell. I am all for it. go to the NORML website (National Organization for the Reformation of Marijuana Laws) formed in the 70's at Illinois State University in Normal, IL (my alma mater) |

Government can tax it, like they do cigarettes and alcohol. If you compare the actual cost of producing packaging, and marketing it with the going price, that leaves a lot of room for taxes.
Also, by taking it out of the hands of street dealers, you deprive them of the chance to proselytize harder drugs to the pot buyers. |

First of all, taxes are not a legitimate reason for legalizing marijuana, despite many people's contentions. Taxes should only be collected for legitimate government purposes, and the government doesn't need any "cash cows".
The only valid reason for legalizing it is the reason that is should be legal. If I smoke marijuana (I don't), and I don't harm anyone, what business is it of the government's?
Diane G, all those points are irrelevant. The only laws that should be passed are those that prevent one person from harming another. Since smoking pot, like drinking beer(I do) harms nobody in and of itself. |

I don't see how it's more dangerous than alcohol (dangerous both for the drunk's health and drunk driving, etc...). So as long as alcohol is legal, marijuana should be legal. |

Might as well, people will continue to buy it anyway. I agree, then the cops can arrest more serious criminals. |

Police can stop putting people in jail for doing something harmless and can start pursuing real dangerous drugs. |

Perhaps legalizing pot would improve your spelling?? |

Our government keeps marijuana illegal because it says that there's no medicinal use for it, but recent scientific research has proven just the opposite (Canada, for one, has just started manufacturing cannabis-based drugs). We all know that marijuana use doesn't cause nearly as many problems as alcohol use, so the only reason left as to why it's illegal is money, plain and simple. There are several very large businesses (drug & alcoholic beverage companies) that would lose a lot of money if the American public were allowed to self-medicate with marijuana (a right that our founding fathers thought we should have, incidentally). It's always about the money! |

legalize marijuana and bring back prohibition for alcohol.
You never see stoners fighting over the bong but all it takes is one drunk to bump into another drunk to start an all out brawl. |

Fast Food Places would make a killing on Burners with the Munchies.
Retail Sales would increase to replace the many items that got lost or misplaced. " Man where did I leave my stuff".
Sorry but I have yet to here a legitimate argument.
No one wants to really cook with Hemp oil, Wear hemp clothing, or solve the energy crisis by using hemp for alcohol cars. They want to get high, eat cheetos, and fall asleep laughing at bad television.
Should it be illegal-Personally its no worse than alcohol or tobacco for your health. It should be legal and regulated just like they are. And by the way, employers should have the right to fire you for being high just like the should fire you if your are drunk. |

I don't feel they should legalize it, but I do feel they should decriminalize it.. Possession up to an ounce or less is equal to a minor traffic ticket, and selling up to an ounce,a misdemeanor. Over an ounce a Felony. |

As you may already know, some claim it has a medicinal purpose. Look on the Internet for studies conducted on this subject, it's a very heated debate!
As for Mike, be more sensitive, you don't know how much this person has inhaled. Do use spell check above! |

we could grow our own and spend that money on something else. all those billions of dollars go to drug lords.. we could be spending that money on things they tax, or the goverment could grow it .. tax it.. and get us out of this war debt. I bet a Farmer wishes he could get 1000.00 an ounce for his corn crop |

There are many reasons why using marijuana is a bad idea.
Cancer, laziness, difficulty driving a car, impaired mental ability... BUT that's not what you asked.
There are many reasons given for why it should be legal. Some make sense, and some do not.
Read, and decide :)

Perhaps if marijuana were legal, I could be "high" and less annoyed with your poor spelling............ |
