Reasons to Legalize Marijuana?

Marijuana prohibition is based on lies and disinformation:

1. People would be much more laid back.
2. Would cut half the drug offenses out and leave space in jail for people who actually NEED to be there
3. A legal market in marijuana would reduce marijuana sales and use among teenagers, as well as reduce their exposure to other drugs in the illegal marketn because popularity also comes from it being illegal.
4. Legalized marijuana would reduce the flow of money from the American economy to international criminal gangs. Marijuana's illegality makes foreign cultivation and smuggling to the United States extremely profitable, sending billions of dollars overseas in an underground economy while diverting funds from productive economic development
5. Marijuana's legalization would simplify the development of hemp as a valuable and diverse agricultural crop in the United States, including its development as a new bio-fuel to reduce carbon emissions.
6. Marijuana is not a lethal drug and is safer than alcohol. It is established scientific fact that marijuana is not toxic to humans; marijuana overdoses are nearly impossible, and marijuana is not nearly as addictive as alcohol or tobacco. It is unfair and unjust to treat marijuana users more harshly under the law than the users of alcohol or tobacco.

Marijuana is too expensive for our justice system and should instead be taxed to support beneficial government programs.Marijuana use has positive attributes, such as its medical value and use as a recreational drug with relatively mild side effects. Many people use marijuana because they have made an informed decision that it is good for them, especially Americans suffering from a variety of serious ailments. Marijuana provides relief from pain, nausea, spasticity, and other symptoms for many individuals who have not been treated successfully with conventional medications. Many American adults prefer marijuana to the use of alcohol as a mild and moderate way to relax.

i had a friend that did four moths in jail over a bowl and a cokecane dealer that did the same four months. coke and weed shouldn't come with the same punishment.

the only reason it isn't is because you can't test on the spot if someone is high or not unless the piss in a cup.

Look at all the reasons why we have chosen to make tobacco and alcohol legal. Both of those "drugs" are proven to be far more dangerous to both individuals and public safety that marijuana ever could be. I find it especially hypocritical of our society to decide which of many dangerous drugs should be legal and which should not. Of all the drugs out there, only the moderate use of alcohol (never getting drunk) is less dangerous than pot.

A few points:

Pot is no more a "gateway drug" than alcohol.

Despite being illegal, it is easier for children to buy pot than it is to buy alcohol.

The illegality of drugs creates a huge crime problem, just as alcohol did during Prohibition.

The fact of pot being illegal in the USA had nothing to do with it being perceived as a dangerous drug.

Smoking pot has never been shown to cause lung cancer. Pot smokers have the same rates of lung cancer as non smokers. (But they do have higher rates of emphezema and bronchitis.)

Legalizing, regulating, and taxing pot would reduce crime, make it harder for children to obtain, and provide additional government revenue. It might also reduce alcohol abuse...which I feel is more detrimental to families and society than marijuana use.

Yes it is retarded that alcohol is legal but they did try to ban it way back when. You should look into our history and become more educated. as well as take a health class to see what drugs do to your body!!!
