I would hire an attorney ....its a gamble either way ....and if you could get it reduced that would really help. Do you feel confident enough you could try and get it reduced .......if you do then do it. But attorneys know the cops and sometimes they "scratch each others back"
Good Luck ~~~ |

Don't waste time and money getting a lawyer. Just represent yourself in trying to get a lesser fine and or charge. More than likely the judge will lower the charge to speeding and lower your fine if you are respectable and do not try and make a lot of excuses. Keep it short and simple and say "your honor" to the judge. |

just pay it. everyone pays it. Your only way out is if you go to court and the officer that gave you the ticket doesn't show up. and its pretty hard to accomplish that. |

just deal with it like everyone else |

If you know you were wrong just pay the fine. This will be cheaper for you. If this is just your first time it really shouldn't be bad just a small fine. If you pay to get a lawyer you will only be waisting your money.
Trust me just pay the fine and learn from the experience. |

Just pay for it. Don't hire a lawyer. My mom is a judge, and she hates these type of cases.
And I don't mean to be preachy, but SPEEDING KILLS. |

Usually if you show up to court you can get it reduced. I heard that in Virginia you can be fined $1000 to $3000 for excessive speeding, so it depends on how much the money matters to you. Do you want to give it to the state or do you want to give it to a lawyer? How much was the ticket? |

Hire a lawyer |

If you were going 81 in a 55 then you deserve a reckless driving ticket. Virginia is ruthless when it comes to speeding. I wouldn't fight it...your only defense is "I'm otherwise a good driver." |

The first thing you do is find out, by calling the court, to see if you can take a driving class and pay a small fine in order to avoid having any points put on your driver's license. In many states, you can take the driving class online. |

Are you a Virginia resident? You better hope you aren't because residents of VA get very hefty fines for reckless driving and others driving offenses. You don't need an attorney, but you can hire one if you want. |

typically the first offense they go easy on you...talk to the prosecutor and if you don't agree take further action |

Throw your self on the mercy of the court. Beg for forgiveness, and swear you'll never do it again. Pay the fine and see if they have the same laws for abjucation, maybe it will come off your record in 90 days. Good luck. |

You need an attorney. With that new law in Virginia your ticket will be a couple thousand dollars, at a minimum. |

You could just go alone and sign the paper saying that you are willing to be tried sans lawyer. At that speed you will most certainly be convicted. The fine will be hefty, you will get some suspension, the extra VA fine on top and have to pay for reinstatement. Plus your insurance will go up for YEARS.
While there is guarantee an attorney might work something out for you and the money on the gamble might in the end pay off in spades. Fairfax court is like a cattle roundup on branding day. A zillion people who go in front of the judge for 2 minutes and you are bang! Guilty. But an attorney can cut you out out the herd, speak to the prosecutor and maybe get you some sort of deal.
A decent lawyer is best (say $1500) up is best but even a cheaper one would be just fine. If you have no money at this point to pay for a lawyer just go to court. When they ask if you have an attorney say no. They will just have you sign a paper saying next time you come you will have one so you get an automatic continuance.
Get the lawyer. |

Many reasons you may want a lawyer/I may miss some:
1.If you feel you were falsey accused
2.If you are not familiar with Virginia traffic laws
3.If you feel the officer that issued the ticket was trying to make his quota
4.If you feel you will be shafted
5.If you feel you are one to be reckon with
6.You want a fair trail
7.You feel the lawyer will lessen your penalty
UNLESS YOU HAVE A SURPLUS OF MONEY & YOU CAN
MISS A DAY OF WORK JUST PAY THE TICKET

Always hire a lawyer for a ticket. Doesn't matter what it is. |

This just happened to me 2 days ago. I'm really stressing as I don't know how serious the offence is. I was on their website, it showed a potential 5 years in prison. Worst part - I was using a gps and was being anal about speed through the whole trip. Bam - I make a wrong exit turn, got stressed out because I'm not familiar with the street and was working with the gps and the signs trying to correct it. Like an idiot, I wasn't paying attention to speed while doing this and got caught doing 84 in a 65. I know I'm an idiot - especially since I was with my wife and young daughter.
Could someone give me an ideal as a potential fine - I have no knowledge about the laws or fee's in Virginia. I'll most likely hire a lawyer to help with points off my licence or suspension, but I would love at least an idea for now..
MUCH APPRECIATED |
