Right to Carry A Gun But Not A Knife?
|
I always wondered why states offer permits to carry a gun, but do not offer permits to carry knives. Can someone please explain this to me? Additional Details A knife is outright illegal to carry in my state, unless you came from a hunting trip. It cannot be carried for self-defense, whereas someone can acquire a permit to carry a gun for self-defense. (Also, I hear that when someone is telling a judge that they carried the knife for self-defense doesn't work.)

It varies by state. For example, in New Mexico, a concealed carry permit (CCW) allows you to carry one gun and one knife. In Arizona a CCW lets you carry all the guns and knives you want. Et cetera. |

Knives are much easier to conceal. |

Because you can usually carry a knife under 5 inches. Atleast in Utah. Why get a bigger one? That'll reach the heart. |

Because the gun industry is a multimillion dollar force in the US economy, and spends lots of money lobbying congress. Who lobbies for knives? |

Because depending on your state, most folding knives are legal to carry without a permit. I think a better question is "Why should we even need permits to carry a gun in the first place?" Do criminals bother obtaining permits? Every state should adopt the Vermont / Alaska approach to carrying concealed handguns, which is that anyone who can legally own a pistol can carry it concealed. |

Because one can carry a knife without the intent to harm or kill, whereas guns are made with the intent to do so. Guns are made for one purpose whereas knives have many everyday uses. It would also depend on the knife in question. It could be an apple knife, a bread knife, a letter opener, a pocket knife. I guess I would have to say that the Gov't should issue permits for the bigger knives like the ones issued in the army... |

Just more retarded laws liberals came up with. amcam ur a ******* retard, i kno dozens of people who carry guns on them with no intent to harm anyone unless it was for protection of their or someone else's life. the government should issue no such permits because if a criminal is going to kill someone with a knife or gun how would needing a permit to carry one stop them? theyre not gonna say "oh **** i dont have a permit to carry this outside my property, one sec lemme go register it and get one so i can kill my neighbor." theyre gonna do it neway whether or not its legal. in alaska and vermont you dont need a permit to carry either, and vermont was the safest state in the union in 2006 along with alaska and north dakota up there.
fun fact: 99.8% of firearms in the USA have never been used in a crime and for knives its proably almost 100% seeing how almost everyone has one. |
