Being British, I don't need, want or require bear arms, although they are incredibly tasty when cooked in a red wine sauce.
On the gun front, why do you need them? Just causes problems really. But then, I would say no, because if those people weren't killed, particularly MLK, then he wouldn't be such a great role model.
Why are Americans gun totting rednecks. Putting weapons in the hands of the general public was never a good idea, but don't know how they can reverse it now. |

see that's the problem. "the right to bear arms" is a misspelling. the original idea was that everyone had "the right to bare arms". the pilgrims were unhappy that their stiff dress code called for long sleeves when they obviously weren't appropriate for the New World (which was warmer than the Old one) and so made a provision that people could roll their sleeves up. unfortunately the stenographer (note-taker guy - i think that's the right word) wrote the wrong word down, and now people are dying because of it. |

Did it ever occurr to you that if someone had spotted the nutcase that shot MLK, and that someone was carrying, he could have at least ended that problem right there and then.

I would never have the Second Amendment repealed. Chris Rock once said, "Don't go to parties with metal detectors. Sure, you might feel safe while you're inside, but what about all the n***** outside with guns? They know you ain't got one." Criminals wouldn't turn in their guns--only law-abiding citizens would, and then the criminal element would have an even greater advantage. |

If everyone carries gun are there no civilians? Surely it makes it easier for state forces to kill civilians if they're potentially armed? I'd rather keep the moral high ground. |

No, since it was most likely a government gun that killed them anyway.
But the right to bear arms is an important right, so important the founders of the constitution make it one of the first ones they put in.
It is not only our right but our obligation almost. Only a armed people can keep the government under control, One of Hitlers first things to save his nation from crime was to take away the guns, so the people could not revolt latter.
The founders of our nation knew that just like they formed our nation, any nation can turn evil and bad and that the people have to be armed so they can take thier nation back by force if needed.
No america should ever want to give up thier rights, and all americans should want to own a gun for just that reason. |

I know it's not true, but we need arms to protect us against our government.
Arms are the way to balance power between government and the governed.

giving up that right doesnt mean that everyone would be saved from being killed by gunshots. those people commited terrible crimes of murder, why wouldnt they also commit the crime to carry a gun. |

As much as I want to say yes, I would have to say no. Just because one would give up there right to bare arms, doesn't mean that they would be alive. Everything happens for a reason. It was there time. Though it was short, and they had so much more to offer, one must realize that if they were to have lived, there dreams and ideals might not have been realized. It's sad to say, but sometimes the death of one, brings together the lives of millions. |

Here in the UK it is illegal to "bear arms" but gun crime is on the increase, up by 8% from last year, a 9mm pistol can be had for as little as £35 ($63) in London, so banning guns will do little to cut down this sort of crime |
