Do the job better than the guy in the next cubicle. Actually staying in ONE job is a bad long term plan. You should be trying to ADVANCE either within the company, or to another company. |

Work hard - that should put you ahead of about 90% of the rest. |

Just be yourself and give the best you can in your job. Don't get involved in the office gossip and be friendly to everyone. |

Show up everyday, never be late, always work, no down time. And the most important play golf with the big bosses and let them win. |

In addition to showing up clean, sober, ready to work, and having a good attitude, try these:
1. Dress a little better than your peers but not better than your boss.
2. ASk your boss if there is anything extra you can do to help.
3. When you get to know your boss and the job fairly well, ask the boss if you can ask a question or two about their job. They will say yes, at which point you say "I want to know what your job is like. I see what you do with me/us, but what are some of the problems you face? What issues do you have to deal with?" If the boss relates a problem or issue and you think you can help, ask if you can. If you make your boss' job easier, you will be around a long time.
Blackmail is good too, and can be a lot easier. |

Don't cause problems, get to work on time, take your breaks when told to take your breaks, don't work overtime unless asked to do so and be on time for everything...do your job, be pleasant and an asset to your employer, don't get sick, don't take time off work. |

Easy. Do your job! Go to work everyday, do your best at your job, and don't cause problems. Don't gossip, or bend rules. Don't cause dissent between management and labor. Try to improve your job performance so you can be promoted. It's always worked for me. |

depends on what industry you're in...some are prone to lay-offs. but if you're talking about how to behave on your job to avoid getting dismissed, be active participant in your department meetings, come prepared with ideas/questions, help others in the dept, don't get in a habit of goofing/slacking (keep focused on the job), be friendly to others at your work (not just your boss). |
