S/s takes away benifits?

in dec 2008 my friend went on 45day home detention [for dwi] please no dumb comments about that anyway they have taken away his s/s for dec jan feb april and now say he wont get check untill end of may is there some place i can find out the lagalitys of this my friend is 66 and a vet never ever been in trouble except for this

The Social Security Administtration would be the best resource for this kind of information. It sounds like they're taking away 6 months of benefits...did he get jailed for 6 months too?...prior to the home detention? I don't know for certain, but I think you cannot claim social security during the time while you are in custody because the state is already paying your care during that time. He may have received benefits while in jail and then this is social security getting caught up.

Either way, I would recommend contacting the SSA to find out more. They will try to help you understand the process...and they do make mistakes sometimes, so definitely contact them.
