Where did our founding fathers write anything relating to the separation of church and state?

The only place anything was written relating to the separation of church and state was in the First Amendment, to wit: "The Congress shall pass no law respecting the establishment of religion." As other responders have said, they simply did not want a national religion. But they did not proscribe the existence of religious belief in the affairs of government, as many secularists have brainwashed us into believing. In fact, expressions of religious belief exist throughout the founders' writings. Hope this clears up a few things. Have a nice day. |

The wall of separation you are referring to did not exist until Everson v. Board of Education in 1947.
The intent of the founders was simply to prevent the formation of a *state* religion, not to 'build a wall of separation'. Their aim was to create an atmosphere of religious freedom, not to reduce the nation to agnosticism. |

the consititution just says that the government cannot force any religion upon people. It says nothing about our nation becoming an athiest or an agnostic
oh and if the governent wants to seperate church and state, then why dont they stay out of other peoples marrages? |

The words religion, or church do not appear anywhere else but in the establishment clause of the first Amendment. |

Thomas Jefferson wrote extensively on it. See his address to the Virginia House of Burgesses. He was vocally opposed to the state collecting taxes for the state religion. |
