Leave it out!!!!! We are English, We live in England, We will be under English laws!!! Dont bring any old rubbish into our systems, as it will only create more loop holes, and its not English!!!!!

No, there should only be one Law for all citizens. I think it's berserk to offer the choice of a second, out dated Law to an ethnic group just because of their religion.

Also, look at the horrible cruelty and discrimination Sharia Law has created in the Middle East in countries where it is applied. Is that what we really want for Western nations? Doe we really want a society that legally treats women as third class citizens and often endorses public hanging of juveniles??

Think of all the Good things that it would bring? Football clubs that were strapped for cash could open up on a Friday afternoon and have public stoning id pay money to watch people having there hands lobbed off There`s money in rocks! and if a Muslim bloke looks at your woman you could have him beheaded. I don't really want it but its not quite as black and white as you make it out to be. Multiculturalism is a fact in the UK, so its just a matter of what is the best way to deal with it? Yes, one set of laws for everybody (the current set) seems to be preferable.

When I first heard of Dr Williams (the Archbishop of Cantebury) proposing this I thought that it was ludicrous but after some further thought I'm not that opposed to it.

However if we can promote social harmony through adjusting the laws then why not? Its much cheaper and less disruptive to society as a whole than solving our differences through military actions.

Nobody is recommending adopting Sharia law wholly and blindly and replacing current laws. Part of the problem is that the words 'Sharia Law' strike fear into people without really knowing what it means (it conjures up beheadings and stonings - nobody is proposing that).

Maybe it would be bettter if we avoided those particular highly charged words, and just adjusted the laws (as we are constantly doing anyway) to reflect the make-up of society.

P.S. - What does it really mean to be English if not at least in part to be accepting of other cultures? England has always been a place where cultures mix, its just that the phenomena is getting broader and including more cultures.

Can I just say I am disgusted at the level of racism on this thread. First of all no, I am not a muslim and no I do not believe Sharia Law should be implemented into the English legal system as I feel many of its laws are backward and unjust. You don't need to tell people to 'go back to wherever you came from' or things like that if you disagree with it. Thats just plain rude. Nobody has more right to be here than anybpody else regardless of whether you are English or not, as it is purely due to chance that we are what we are so get over yourselves.
