We already have Sharia courts in UK.
They exist to allow Muslims to resolve disputes and discuss domestic problems, without recourse to law. Muslim businessmen can choose to take contract disputes with other Muslims to the local Sharia Court, rather than involve the English Law.
Their decisions have no standing in English Law and are therefore not enforcable. They have the power to impose fines and community service penalties, but again, these are not enforcable under English Law.
They cannot try criminal cases, which must go to Law Courts. They cannot chop people's hands off, order floggings or impose any penalty which would be a breach of English Law.
Sadly a number of answerers here have shown how little they understand about Sharia Law. It cannot involve non-Muslims (unless they choose to use it as a dispute resolution service) and it is always secondary to English Law. And it will always be secondary to English law.
To draw a parallel of religious tradition running alongside English Law - consider those of all faiths, who chose to go through a religious marriage service as well as their civil one. Which one do they consider the important one? Yet which is the only legally binding one?
MICK: Saudi Arabia is a nasty despotic repressive country. Are you suggesting we should model our country on it? |

no.
a) the majority of the people in this country call themselves christians, so muslim law would be un democratic (as it would be against the majority).
b) there are many concepts in sharia law that are anti-women, and some that are just not acceptable in our society, such as execution, flogging etc.
c) if people come to this country, they should do so accepting our laws (perhaps this would also help reduce crime rates). i would not dream of going to live in a country where sharia law was in place and just go ahead living by the british legal system until someone suggested we just make it law anyway, which is basically what some (a minority, but still some people) are doing.. |

Nothing good can come from the Islamisation of the UK. The only Islamic countries that are not dirt poor are the ones who have oil. The only reason that their oil is a source of richness for those countries is because Westerners invented cars and machinery that needs it We even have to go dig it out for them. |

Absolutey not. What would those be good for? "To save the country"? idiotic. The british culture should not be replaced by that nonsense. They should go back were they came from if they want that. There should be no place for sharia law in a western country. |

No,they chose to live in England so abide by the laws already imposed. Plus if it did happen, how would that work? the muslim people would use shariah law to their advantage e.g. no interest on loans, and when it came to being sentenced for a crime, they would return to the english laws...Imo anyways |
