Should I buy a gun for protection?

A gun in the hands of someone who does not know how or when to use it is a REALLY bad idea.

My advice is that you sign up for shooting lessons. See if you are able to handle a firearm properly while also hitting what you are aiming at!

I'd also recommend that you call your local police department and ask to go on a ride-along with one of their female officers (or any experienced officer). After spending a shift with the officer, ask her or him for their opinion on your idea of carrying a gun.

(And, incidentally, I am a female. I have a background in criminal justice (and had the nickname Annie Oakley when I went through the academy because I am a really good shot). I have a concealed weapons permit and usually carry a firearm. But, under many conditions, if a guy approached me and a friend and demanded our purses - I would hand over the purse and tell my friend to do the same. There is nothing in my purse that is worth risking my life or freedom. If he attacked us, or attempted to force us into a vehicle or off of the street, etc. . . . then that would change things and I would be willing to employ deadly force.

That depends. If you are caught in a situation where the person attacking you finds the gun, the person may get infuriated and hurt you even more.

On the other hand, if you are not caught in that position, it is still dangerous because the opposing force could also have a gun...

I believe it would be better if you got some pepper spray or maybe a taser...

You can buy a gun, but unless you know how to use it...and are willing to use it...most likely someone will disarm you and shoot you with it.

The best idea is to avoid dangerous places, or go in big groups.

where im from, the more guns u have the btr(not a bad area big hunting area lol) but a gun is a little extreme either a tazer or peperspray would be sufficiant

For myself and my wife you, we would get a gun. But the question to ask yourself is, can you handle one? Could you make it a part of yourself, not be afraid to use it, not be afraid of the consequences if you are forced to use it?

If you decide to get one, practice, practice, practice. Take course, learn your firearm inside and out.

Sure. But check your state/countries laws and follow them to the dime.

In the US, most states require a permit or license to carry, keep that in mind.

When you carry a firearm, you need to be willing to practice, and above all else to be MENTALLY prepared to actually use it if it came down to it.

Extra notes...

If someone walks up to you with a baseball bat 7 feet away from you and says "gimme your money", you can't just pull out the gun and shoot them. The wisest choice is usually to just give them the wallet or purse, especially if they're calm. You use the gun when you are in imminent danger.

You're a girl, making a firearm that much more valuable, as girls are more frequently targeted to be robbed/raped/etc. One thing you gotta keep in mind.. Please don't carry the firearm in your purse. The first defense against a thief is to just give them the purse, but when you have a gun in the purse, it complicates the situation, and you don't need that. Also, my mom can't even get to her phone to answer a call in time... Carrying on your person generally makes for a faster draw.

DO NOT BUY A HANDGUN AND CARRY IT IN YOUR PURSE WITHOUT A CONCEALED WEAPON PERMIT. It costs like 30 dollars and can be taken at any major gun store. IF YOU DO PURCHASE A WEAPON AND CARRY IT IN YOUR PURSE WITHOUT A CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT, YOU WILL BE CHARGED WITH A FELONY AND GET 8 YEARS MINIMUM IN PRISON AND NEVER BE ALLOWED TO PURCHASE A GUN AGAIN. Also your family will not be able to purchase guns either because your a direct member.

Too many people buy weapons and don't think about getting a concealed carry permit and it bites them big time in the butt.

Yes buy a gun, but you will have to get a concealed weapons permit, then buy a small but good caliber gun like a m9 or .357 magnum. both great guns and the magnum is easy to loud. (recommend getting some lessons on shooting if you don't know how to.) you can go to sporting goods stores like hunting stores or gun stores to get a pistol and the guys down there can help you just tell them what you will use it for.

Well you obviously need a license first. I would say yes but if it happens again and you have a gun then don't shoot him if he's running.

ya, u could just buy an AK-47, go to guns and ammo, its on millplain by the sushi place close to my church. i live in washington though. good luck getting one, i just sold all my knifes so i cant lend u any weapon.

It's not that simple. With gun ownership comes a very high degree of responsibility. If your going to buy a gun you must learn to use it properly. How to safely care for and store it when not in use so no one gets injured. You must learn when you have a legal right to armed lethal defense.You must get licensed to carry your weapon legally (very difficult in some jurisdictions)
And last but not least you have to make sure you are physically and mentally prepared to use it if the need arises.

i think a good swise army knife! cut there finger of or something its convient
i 13 and have used guns at farms and they are harder than it looks!
