Should I sue my dentist?

Should I sue my dentist?

Here's my situation:

For the whole 18 years of my life I never had one cavity or similar problem. The dentist always complimented me on how great my mouth was. My family then moved to a new town so we started going to the local dentist. I had my first appointment with them and was told "Oh my god! you have a PERFECT mouth. I hardly even have to clean!" etc etc. Several months later I went back for another cleaning and the dentist found 6 cavities (on the same teeth on ech side of my mouth). I was shocked because I hadn't done anything different than I had been doing my whole life. But I didn't question it because after all, they're credible right? So I got my right side cavities filled one day with no issues then return a few days later to get the other side. This time the number didn't work...twice... and I had to finally just tell the dentist to do the procedure anyways. A few days later, still sore naturally, I left for college. My mouth was still really sensitive after a couple weeks but I didn't think it was a big deal cuz I had recently had the procedure and was expecting to be tender. However, the pain never went away the whole semester I was there. I called and scheduled an appointment for as soon as I got back but I had to suffer for the rest of my stay. I couldn't eat or drink on the right side of my mouth without truly excrutiating pain. When I got back home the dentist blew some air onto my tooth and concluded that there was nothing REALLY wrong cuz I didn't "jump out of my chair screaming." They told me that it wasn't their fault and that I obviously had an issue that they couldn't fix; they wanted to send me to a specialist. I finally went back to my old dentist and after x-raying me, he found that the sensitivity was caused by my fillings. He had drilled so deep that the filling was on my nerve and that the only solution would be a root canal. So now, after paying thousands of dollars for 6 cavities, I am going to have to get 3-6 root canals and the dentist is refusing to pay for it even though I walked into his office with no pain and a "PERFECT MOUTH" and walked out with 6 painfully sensitive teeth. I can't even eat things that don't have an extreme temperature.

What should I do?

Sue everybody. It can't possibly be your fault. Somebody must have screwed up.

I hate how people wanna sue for anything but this time I think you have a valid case. I'd sue....you never know.....others may have complained about him (you're probably not the first). If not for money, get his licenses revoked if it's a consistent problem. Maybe he never finished with his license? You never know. Check the BBB.

that is odd...I only went to the dentist once (for forensic reasons...incase my body showed up in a ditch somewhere) and I didnt have any cavities...but 6 "stickies" as they called it (when the put the metal thing into the center of my tooth, it was not firm, it was sticky) indicating that they would soon be cavities and I would need to take care of them in the near future. Well, I am 30 now, and still no teeth issues (havent been back to the dentist though)..no pain where the stickies were located.

It sounds like your new dentist may of did some unnecessary dental work. you know how doctors push services so they can make $$$$. I would perhaps consult somebody about it considering you are in constant pain, and you second opinion (your reg dentist) diagnosed that the fillings were inproperly filled. see who your 1st dentist would reccomend talking to about this. And have your original dentist do the root canals...I wouldnt trust the other guy at this point.

I am really sorry your in pain...nobody deserves to be. can your dentists prescribe some pain killers that will allow you to eat regularly?

if you had no pain why did you let the dentist do it, you should have waited and gotten a second opinion like went back to your old dentist, since he treated you ask him for advise on what do
