Should Marijuana be legal? Why or why not?

Marijuana is less harmful then cigarettes and alcohol,no one has ever gotten cancer from it or any other illness for that matter, the only reason the government will not legalize it is because they make more money from it being illegal. Everytime a big bust is made they take everything, money,cars,homes ect. because they claim these things were bought with the money they made from selling Marijuana, it is not addictive like cigarettes and alcohol and it does not lead to harder drugs, if someone is doing harder drugs it is because they chose to ,not because they may have smoked marijuana first. native americans use to smoke it all the time and they lived to ripe old ages .

No. Losing temporary control of your mind is not recreation, and it shouldn't be used as a drug while there are better and safer alternatives.

It's addictive, and it tends to lead to heavier stuff, like crystal meth and LCD.

Doctors will tell you that marijuana is nowhere near as harmful as cigarette tobacco or any kind of alcohol. It is not addicting like other drugs (tobacco and alcohol included).

But there is no 'hemp' industry with high paid lobbyists dumping money into politicians pockets, so marijuana likely will never be legalized.

I think this country would be a much better, healthier place if tobacco and alcohol were illegal, and pot was legal.

Absolutely for end of life medicinal purposes. Also for cases of severe pain.

Yes, I think marijuana should be legal. It grows in the ground for us to smoke. It should be used legally for medicine and recreation for those 21 years and older. On the negative side, I think we would see a big increase in traffic accidents. Many people I've known can't concentrate behind the wheel.

If a lot of the drunks would get stoned instead there would be a lot less fights.

The reason it's illegal is because in the 30s when only blacks and mexicans smoked, the white powermakers were afraid and outlawed it. There's no good reason to keep it illegal.

Absolutely. The present trend of U.S. society to continue to find ways to "protect us from ourselves" is getting very socialist. It is very important that we protect freedom in our country. At the same time, if someone commits a crime involving infringing on someone else's rights they should face far greater consequences than they do now. Someone wants to steal to keep smoking pot? The pot may have made it more likely to steal in this case, but that is tough for the thief and irrelevant to the crime. They should pay for the crime. If society has more of a certain crime, the penalty should go up based on the frequency. If drugs cause such crimes, well, then more drug users will go to jail because they did the crime, not just the drug.

Oh, by the way. I don't take drugs, I never have, I don't tolerate having drug users around me. But I am first a U.S. American, and freedom is a prize I won't sacrifice.

Yes. If the state controlled the quality of the product and packaged and sold it only to adults, like liquor. Otherwise, foreign governments and possibly terrorists would reap the profits. Also, if marijuanna were to be legalized, all other illegal drugs should be punishable with a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years in prison (even for first time offenders) for possession and 20 years for distribution. There has to be some distinction between a non-harmful recreational drug and those that kill and promote crime.

a lot of pot smokers think it should be, but if it were legalized, all the profits would go from their pot growing friends and into the hands of the government.

yes and no, yes marijunan should be legal because if peolpe do that kinda crap than they are screwing up there own lives and why should the goverment care i think that the main reson that it is ilegal is because people can get it and make it and the goverment would lose alot of money probaly. no,because Marijuana is really dangerous and has major side effects and it dosn't just hert you but it herts the peolpe around you

if marijuana is drugs, then i think that using them is horrible scince it kills. im also against smoking scice my dad does ALL the time and he looks like he's 80 when he's only 53. I think it SHOULD be illegale and those who take should get help quickly.

1) it's a victimless crime, legalizing would remove the (criminal) element that actually hurts people (drug dealers, laced weed, etc.)

2) look at the usage statistics for Amsterdam (Holland)... speaks for itself (it's lower than here).

I think it shoudl be legalized..how often do you hear of people being hurt because of it...there should be limits...like it should only be used with perscripions...its a drug, but it is helpful. thats just my opinion though.

Theres nothing really wrong with smoking weed.
It's less harmful than cigarettes and those are legal.
It's just another pain medication.
People have used it throughout history.
Chinese, Native-Americans, ect.
And now its "illegal"

Well only a weak minded person would say that smoking weed leads to other drug use. To me that is funny because smoking cigarettes is way more addictive than smoking weed. Weed also has a way of keeping someone healthy. Really You say ha , study weed how many deaths or cancers or people in the hospital over an overdose because of weed. You tell me cause I really wanna know. I believe it should be legal, but like cigarettes and alcohol an age limit should be put on it. You are your own person and your choices are yours. So look up Weed, Cigarettes, Alcohol and whatever drug you want and see which one has the lesser damage to you. I dare you.
