Yes, it should be. The death penalty should be given to every first degree criminal in the world. Here's why:
-it serves due justice (the punishment fits the crime), and serving due justice is the NO.1 job of a court of law
-it shows that we are tough on crime
-it gets bang for the taxpayers buck
-criminals given the DP have a 0% recidivism rate
-It holds people responcible for the horrible content of their character. This fulfills what MLKJ always wanted: judge not by the color of your skin, but by the content of your character. The characterof these criminals warrants death
-It holds the criminal responcible for his actions
-appeals and **** aside, it's cheaper then prison
-it decreases the prison population, which saves even more taxpayers money
-Because the death penalty is the punishment given by a neutrel judge, there is no vengance in it. Therefore, there is no moral objection to be had with the death penalty.
-The death penalty defends human rights by establishing a mentality that "we will not tolerate any violation of any innocent person's human right's |

The death penalty is not a deterrent to others and does not bring back the ones murdered. It is revenge, pure and simple. |

No. I'd like to see life imprisonment meaning life, and not in some cushy holiday camp either.
I agree with the above reasons. |

No, because our legal system is not good enough. Too many mistakes would happen, meaning that innocent people would be executed for crimes they did not commit. Our legal system would need a complete overhaul before anything like this was implemented. |

Killing people to prove that killing people is wrong does not work. Most states in the US have the death penalty, yet we still have high murder rates...go figure. |

all very well in theory. but the reality is that a teenage thug who murders some one is back out on the streets before he's 21st birthday having learned even more violence. how to intimidate! ETC........if life in prison meant life!!....then i would agree with you. but there are too many people laying in cold cold graves because these b@stards are let back out on the streets. (including 23 children last year alone) the bigger picture is a generation of children growing up afraid.......parents paranoid. social freedom GONE!!....only a very small minority of people murder. and yet the PC rule says that we must all live in fear, and risk our children's lives to accommodate the human rights of the few???? makes dammed little sense to me. |

Prison is not the answer for serious crime like rape, murder and perverts. Hang them. |

There is no doubt that the death penalty must come back.
For those that say well the death penalty does not work in the states, there is a simple answer to that, quite simply we have a society built up to include a bunch of "sit on the fence" do-gooders. These are people who make noises about human rights etc with no respect for the human rights of the people whose lives are destroyed and rights taken away, when they are raped, beaten and left for dead often for just a few pounds.
As for having it on their consience and having to live with it forget it, they have no consience, that is why they keep re-offending.
Being away from their families makes them suffer??????
The families who have lost there loved ones permanently, families having to look after disabled brothers and sisters because of someones animalistic barbarism, they too are suffering a whole lot more.
It's because people are not being punished that we are in the worst time ever for knife crime, gun crime and anti social violence.
Drugs and drink are too readily available you only have to watch people who binge drink to see the behaviour change through the evening. Social chat changes to arguing and then progresses to fists flying. One goes down and then the rest start kicking, all in the name of a good night out.
I have many times answered similar questions on these pages regarding this subject and my answer will always be the same,,,,, THE PUNISHMENT MUST FIT THE CRIME we should expect to have safety for all and a quality of life for all.
Those that want to act against people with violence need to learn hard and fast If you murder rape or destroy life then you forfeit yours. ONE STRIKE=OUT |

no. there are far too many flaws with is, such as the chance that they have got an innocent man, or a repeat of killing a man who has 'mental issues' and so is actually a ten year year old. besides, "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." |

YES, but for certain crimes only:
I think the following would/ should qualify:
Murder
Paedophilia
Treason
Terrorism
Torture

Lets be realistic here, the current legal system obviously isn't working - people are getting to the stage of not going out at night because of what might happen. People know that, if they are caught, they will have a short prison sentence, good conditions and have their time cut inside if they have "good behaviour". Also, how many times have we seen murderers been released from prison, to kill again?
Saying that the offender MIGHT not have down the crime isn't good enough, because they might well have.
It's just like saying - "Well, although we have forensic and witness evidence, the man says he didn't kill that woman, so we can't be sure - let him go".
You just wouldn't do that.
Things like armed robbery and anti-social behaviour (which goes on for a long time) should be subject to corporal punishment. |

yes your rite but for the most serious ones should be dealt with i mean those who mess with kids and beat the elderly things like that then they should be put down |

yes why should these people who murder, rape, kill, and sodomise be kept alive, if an animal kills or maims a human it is put down straight away. |

Yes it should for Child Killers and terrorists |

Problem with that is that a number of people who were executed or gaoled were innocent and not on a technicality.
It is difficult enough to compensate adequately someone who has spent years in prison but impossible to compensate someone who has been executed |

No. Capital punishment should never return but prison for those who kill should be very harsh and a real deterrent for those people who seem to enjoy killing for fun. I truly believe killers should lose their human rights and should be treated like wild dogs which they are. |

No, if only on the basis of the experience with it in the United States. |

In most situations I'd say no but there are some cases where it's obvious the person deserves to die e.g. serial killers of say 10 people. Why is taxpayer money used to keep them alive? It could be invested in neighbourhoods to hit the root causes that nurture people who do that.
At the same time I don't trust the government's ability to discern who is and who isn't deserving of death. One party would call someone a terrorist while another would call them a freedom fighter. And I say keep that propaganda far away from our legal system.
The idea of precedent in courts is taken too far. Yes it has a place, but each case should be taken on its own merits, however much it costs. |

I agree with u; no, no, no........no death penalty in the UK. We are far too civilised to have capital punishment.
No-one has the right to take another life, and what does a 'life for a life' policy achieve? It just perpetuates violence and death.
It has been shown in many studies that crime rates are not affected by the possiblity of facing the death penalty - just look at the US. |

yes, nothing else works? and when it was here before killers did not get a chance to kill again, killers have no conscience.
there is a saying in prison when asked by a magistrate (Quote) does education stop them repeating thier crimes
answer no but they sweep up after themselves because they are educated(unquote)
it is amazing so many so called do-gooders come out of there nest's to voice their objections, but don't want to take on the responsibility of cleaning up the aftermath of their dithering. |

I would have MPs face a confidence vote annually - do the public think they delivered what they said they would. After three consecutive fails, it would be the drop. May seem harsh, but think how much damage and harm they can bring to our lives if they are incompetent - on a par with the terrorists.
It would also weed out the career politicians. |

If i understand correctly, Goering, Himler and all the nazi chiefs should have been sent to jail and not hung ?
Remember nearly no criminals remain in jail all their life and some of them, once they are out, kill again. And therefore innocent people have been condemned to death penalty at the same time and without any possibility of going to jail instead of being executed.
We are all condemned to death but only at the time God has decided...for those commiting horrible crimes death is probably the only solution to get rid of them in the most economical and efficient way. Why should tax payers pay millions for those monsters ? do they need to be also punished ? |

Absolutely not.
1. There are too many miscarriages of justice - even after years - to be certain you've got the right man.
2. It's barbaric.
3. I don't believe it's a deterrent, because a lot of these people probably believe they'll never get caught.
Besides, in a few years we'll have the (neuro)technology to change people's personalities, making criminals incapable of murdering again. Though that would be a bit like a death sentence itself. |
