Should a library in a Black community be forced to carry books by the KKK?

This question concerns a fundamental misunderstanding of the first ammendment.

The right to free speech means you can say or publish anything you want.

It does NOT mean you have the right to distribution. You do not have the right to force me to purchase your work.

That is exactly what you are doing when you force me to pay - with my tax dollars - for my library to carry (distribute) your work which I may find offensive.

It is NOT censorship to refuse to have your tax dollars fund a work that is offensive to you.

Censorship is when an AUTHORITY PREVENTS you from publishing or distributing your work.

In this case the black community has a right to protest their FORCED purchase of this book.

Please don't quote legal precedent - I know what prior decisions on the subject have said - they're wrong.

I think it should be up to the community. While hatred is definitely a bad thing, if we (as a people in general) forget our mistakes, how can we learn from them?

I don't think they should, but knowledge is power. The more you know about your enemy (their history, they way they think, why they think that way, ) the better chance you have in defeating them.

A public Library should carry whatever the public requests, as it is funded by the public. This means that they must carry, or provide acess to whatever is requested by the public.

NO and no library should it's justputting thoughts in peoples head and besides who woul want to read books by the KKK when they hate most people they are not superior nor are they smart if they had any common sense theyd see they werent different from black people.

educationally beneficial to a Black community. Propaganda
or literature that promotes hatred, racial tension, or has a
negative impact on our society as a whole should be put out

If the library is publicly funded, then they need to carry all books. Of course, I think there should be some sort of guidelines as to who checks them out and such.

Banning anything from a public library opens the doors to censorship, and I think that would be a very dangerous thing to do.

Of course, I think that any KKK person looking to put books in the public library of a predominantly black community is just looking for a fight, and will more than likely get one if that is their intention. I would think the books would be used for recruiting people for the cause, and I don't think the KKK is looking for many African American members. . .

Yes because no book should be banned anywhere. And just because the nearest community is black, it doesn't mean that all the customers are.

Public Library or a Black Community Library that denies Public access. The question is flawed.
I will explain and prolly upset alotta people, but I am not Politically Correct, I choose to be Honest with myself and with others.
A Private Library cannot be forced to do anything.
A Public Library serves the Community.
The Community is not black, the Community is the Citizens.
If you want to teach a reverse racist ideology, limit knowledge, Hitler tried that, so its kinda been done.
The anti Racism of Racism is in and of itself a racism. Think about it.

They should carry books by everyone. Just because it's in a black community doesn't mean others won't use that library. If you don't like it, don't read it.

Only if one in a White community is forced to carry books by the Black Panthers. I believe very firmly in social inertia, for every forced action, there should be something to mirror it. So, if F. Lewis is in the Public Library, so should N. B. Forrest. Otherwise it's enforcing someone else's point of view upon everyone. We should be free to hear everyone's voice, no matter how difficult their message is to stomache. Am I right?

I think the real question is should any library carry books about hatred of others. The answer is no b/c you don't make books to teach to hate others

A library in any community should not be forced to carry any books full of hate. I guess you should really not worry because I really doubt anyone will be checking them out for anything other than research purposes (why anyone would WANT to research the KKK, I have no idea).
