I would think so, but not here, a woman ran a stop light and smashed into i mini-van putting 4 in hospital, all she got was a $ ticket, Judge said "She suffered enough knowing what she did". But same Judge put a friend of mine in jail for 6 months because he got stopped at a "DUI check point" and tested .12. That was his first ticket ever, speed or anything. Judge told him "You know how many people are injured by drunk drivers every year?". OH well. Yes I will get the comeback "You know how many are killed by drunk drivers every year?"..No, I don't know, but that woman should have got prison time. This isn't a rant, but damn, put all bad drivers in prison, drunk or not.

Yes same lame resonses on here, I said should someone that CAUSES a crash be treated the same as one who MAY cause one. Yes accident, no fooling, but bad driving, I say put her in prison.

The difference is that in the woman's case it was an accident. She did not set out to harm anyone.
In the dui case your friend made a decision to drive and put others at risk. Luckily they caught him before it happened. |

Anyone who runs a stop light is obviously 'impaired'. If you're a crappy driver, yet continue to drive, is there not intent behind that as well? Don't get me started on DUI laws...and I don't even drink. |

If you have a problem with how the criminal element was handled, speak to the district attorney about the message this is sending.
You can also (in many states) file an administrative complaint against any licensed driver, pointing out their bad driving and requesting the registrar of licensing hold a hearing to determine if her license to drive on public streets should be revoked before she kills somebody.
Finally, you can call the local investigative TV news team and offer them an interview with an enraged citizen who isn't going to take this lying down. |

That woman made a mistake. A big mistake, but a mistake. People do it all the time. She didn't mean to hurt people. But a person that gets into a car after they have been drinking is making a decision. They are asking for someone to get hurt. Everyone knows that an impaired driver cannot react as fast as a driver that is sober. All people that drink and drive should be put away! Shame on your friend! I hope he's not driving on my roads! |

I agree especially if they are doing something like talking or texting to cause the crash. That is the same reasoning behind who DUI is punished so hard because the person knowingly drank and drove and that is what caused the accident. |
