Should drunk drivers who kill someone in a car wreck be publicly hanged?

No. Anyone who commits a capital crime should be dispatched as quickly as possible so that they cannot commit another similar crime, but execution should never be considered a punishment and execution should never again be a source of entertainment.

Unless one can show that the drunk driver got drunk and drove with the intention of killing the victim, as opposed to getting drunk and killing someone at random out of negligence, then they have not committed a capital crime and cannot be executed in the first place. They are no more guilty of capital murder than the landlord who doesn't fix the stairs if someone falls and dies. It would be possible, and desirable, in both cases to sue the offender for everything they're worth.

We in India do not hang anyone publically... The basic law states that if you kill someone without the intention of killing is not homicide...therefore the question of murder does not arise.
However on ethical grounds one country should make the punishment severe enough ..so that it has that much effect that it will stop the others from commiting mistakes.. This in my opionion should be the purpose of law.... Chopping of fingers from the left hand one by one could be a good move and also spare lives and make people afraid of drunk driving

Punishment is sometimes given out in a way a victim can not understand, but sometimes to some no punishment is enough besides death.. and what then... you will not find peace in that.. only retribution.
It is horrible what may have happened, but everyone will have their day, one day.

They were drunk when they drove the car and for that reason they were at fault, but they did not intend to kill somebody. Justice has to be paid but they need not be hanged.

I think there life should be taken away, not necessarily ended. They shouldn't be allowed to be apart of society ever again. They shouldn't be able to drink, drive, or anything of the sort whether together or apart, ever again.

I would love public hangings brought back. Quinten Tarantino movies are so much more violent what's the big deal. Yeah drunk drivers should first be treated as pinatas and then hung.

yes, right along with CEO's of companies that knowingly place defective products and harmful drugs into the consumer market for profit motives, completely disregarding the public safety factors. No really, maybe it's time for tighter control over alcohol sales. If you have been convicted of drunk driving you should be prohibited from purchasing or consuming alcohol. Most drunk drivers have multiple convictions before they ever kill anybody. I think the public is way to focused on stupid things like second-hand smoke and not first-hand getting killed by a drunk........

Murder is murder no matter how you slice it and if you decide to drive drunk, then you are choosing to "pick up a deadly weapon" and use it. More over I am in favor of the death penalty.

No.A driver may kill someone even if he has not drunk. So the punishment should depend on whether he was driving rashly & whether it was his fault or not.

For all those who disagree that a person who kills should not be hung and killed themselves should have to be forced to be part of a jury in these cases and see first hand pictures and hear testimonies from both sides. Yes this is a free country thanx to our men and women who put their lives on the line, but that does not give someone the right to take another persons life. How is killing a person because they were drunk considered an accident? BS they had a choice not to drive but still did so accident I dont think so, they are no different than those who chose to pick up a gun and shoot someone. And the poor excuse of they didn't set out to kill because they have a drinking problem well that's like saying those who rape and kill women, children, and men didn't mean to they have an illness. In my eyes those who are the survivors of these innocent victims killed should be allowed 20 minutes to un leash on these pieces of sh**s. People say justice was served because they were convicted and sentenced but no justice is not served until they are sentenced to death. Why should they live when those who lost their lives because these worthless no good so what called human beings chose to do what they did? I hope they all die in hell!!! For those out there who have lost a loved one I am truly sorry for your pain and lost. I would try to comfort you by saying in time it will get better but I'd be lying. So instead I will tell you that I will keep you all in my prayers everyday.
