Should guns be allowed in the United States?

Wow, I won't even go into what is so wrong about you calling our Constitution a piece of paper.

I'm sure you have enough common sense to know that banning guns will not all of the sudden cause criminals to go straight and never touch a gun again. So I won't go there either.

However, it seems the liberals have gotten to you. Let me tell you the real reason liberals don't want you to have a gun. And yes, it's majority liberals that push for banning guns. It's not because they are concerned about your safety or crime rates. Part of the reason our founding fathers made sure that citizens had to the right to bear arms is so that we as citizens have a way to keep our GOVT under control. Liberals believe in one thing....LARGE govt and they want ALL citizens to be dependent on govt. Because the more we are dependent on them, the more power they have. Think about that for a minute. Liberals do not want us to have the means to over throw them if they get out of control. Simple as that.

Now on another note, if someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night....I bet you would turn conservative real quick..............cause your going to wish you had a gun.

There would not be less crime...take a good look at England, and other places that don't allow guns and crime is the same or in some cases worse

how do you figure there would be less crime. DC has the strictist gun laws in the nation yet one of the highest murder rates. Criminals will always have guns.

Why shouldn't I mention the Constitution? It isn't about "Rules" it is about your Rights as an American Citizen,dude. These rights do NOT come from the govt but from our creator, the govt was established to help protect those rights not restrict them. without guns there would have been no United States, without guns the govt would strip you of evey right that you currently enjoy.

Yes of course. Without guns crime would remain at the same level or actually increase since only the criminals will have guns.
Look at Australia and Great Britain, both countries have significantly reduced the numbers of guns in the hands of law abiding citizens hands and both countries have had dramatic increases in violent crimes. Those are the cold hard facts. And BTW yes a piece of paper can and does stop the rules from simply being changed.

Countries that have severe restrictions on firearms may in fact have fewer firearms related murders but their overall murder rates remain as high as countries that don't restrict guns. So in effect they are rendering their citizens helpless to defend themselves.

If a law were made that didn't allow guns, people would still have guns.
I don't like them, personally, but it's not a right you can really take away from people, so no way it would pass.
It's sad, but crime wouldn't really go down that much...
And what kind of example would it set if innocent civilians weren't allowed to have firearms, but police and soldiers could?
That would not end well for anyone...
So basically, guns may be wrong, because of killing and all the horrible things that could happen, but there really can't be a law against them.
It denies everything the U.S. stands for, no matter what you really think that's supposed to be.

What do you base your theory of less crime on, You can hardly walk the streets in the UK without being mugged.

Guns do not kill people, people kill people. If the guns were taken away, then the only people that would have them would be criminals and murders.

Really??? Why not ask people in London how crime free their streets are? Guns are not the problem. The real problem begins with parental guidance (or the lack there-of) in too many pockets of our society.

really no guns less crime? wow never heard that one. i guess you could say the same about a watch dog. i guess if everybody was a good person we wouldn't need guns. well not everybody is a good person. look in the paper under police reports and see how many things get stolen or houses get broken into. if i knew you didn't have a gun in your house i would probably break into it.
guns also keep the foreign powers from invading. i wish i had the video still of a russian general sitting in an interview with a reporter who asked the question "why did the ussr never invade america?" his resopnse was something like this...the public of the USA is armed and we didn't think we could conquor them with all the fire power the people have. so guns have a place in our society. one day guns will be gone. on that day we lose our ability to keep the government in its place. unarmed people are so much easier to control ask hitler. the first thing he did when entering a country is remove all the fire arms from the people.

Sure. Gun control laws aren't about guns or safety they are about control.

The first question I would always ask about gun control is "are the police going to have their guns confiscated as well". If guns are illegal an no one will have a gun the police shouldn't need them either. But as long as the police think they need to keep their guns, then I think I need to keep mine.

I would be willing to make an exception to that. If the police are going to provide me with a 24 hour escort by a fully trained and armed policeman then I wouldn't really need a gun. Otherwise I'll keep my gun, thank you very much.

Countries that are essentially gunless have significantly less murders than countries like the US.

England & Wales (severe restrictions on owning guns) - 73 firearms homicides.

USA (right to bear arms) - about 15 000 firearms homicides.

The figures speak for themselves.
