Should i be getting paid for this?

at my job we get paid 9 till 5.30 however in the morning to open we have to be there 15 mins before hand to set up the till and computer and we cant close till all the customers have left. and close takes anywhere between 15-30 mins. however we dont get paid to close let alone to stay so customers can continue to look around is this right or should i be getting paid for this extra time?

i get paid hourly and if i lose this job. at least i get to spend more time with my daughter.

I would contact the labor department and ask them. What I can tell you is that back in the early eighties, Wendy's was making something similar a practice and a class action law suit was filed against them by former and current employees. They had to pay out thirty million dollars in fines and back wages. I am not sure how close your case and theirs is though, that is why I would call the labor department.

yes, if you are physically required to be there and work...you should be paid.

Are you salary or hourly? If the latter, I would think you have a valid case. Use caution though in these difficult economic times - you are replaceable.

Probably - but by protesting you may find you don't get called into work anymore and someone else takes your shift. Its hard to get support when you work for a small business.

as an hourly paid employee you have to get paid for all of the time you are clocked in and working. time can be deducted for brakes. your employer should be locked up for slave labor. free labor calculates your time vs. your pay scale below minimum wage in some cases.
