No it shouldn't.
My father and grandparents smoked in their cars around my sister and I, and we turned out normal healthy children. Other kids will too, if you let them.
It will never get enforced anyway. Are you going to place a police officer in every car 24/7? Are you going to tell the cops to stop chasing drug dealers, murderers, and bank robbers, to arrest people for smoking in their cars? Get real people.

Considering sitting in rush hour traffic, inhaling all of those fumes from bumper to bumper cars, essentially equates to smoking a pack a day...I don't think it would make much of a difference.

As long as tobacco remains legal, I don't think there should be any government restrictions on it's use. It's hypocritical to say 'tobacco is legal' then not allow its use anywhere.

if you smoke with kids in the car, they are inhaling the smoke, which is bad
they would be secondhand smoking, so i think it should become illegal

That is a hard question. I was a smoker for 30yrs and for the last 15 I've quite .It's probably a matter of priorities in your life. I can see their point also.

I think it should be illegal, as all smoking in public should be. The situation is worse in the case of cars and kids, because, first, the kids did not choose to be exposed to harmful chemicals to which they are particularly sensitive, and second, the car is a closed environment where the concentration of the poisons is greater.

BTW, such a law has just taken effect this january 21st in Ontario (Canada)
