I'm in law enforcement and say, Yes, with some stipulations. Those being that only seeds are sold. The user grows only enough for their own use. The marijuana be used only in their home or a very non public setting. Any sales and the person loses any right to use in the future, gets prison and fines.
I voted for legalized medical marijuna which was legalized in Oregon. But I now oppose that. The problem being that everyone with a medical marijuana growing permit is growing extra for sale. Often making well over $250,000 annually and selling to anyone who wants it at $400 to $1500 per ounce.
I don't deny and believe marijuna is a gatway drug. But not the drug itself but people profiting from sales. In itself, marijuna is much less harmfull than alcohol. A driver under its influence is actually safer than sober, though actually overly cautious and under speed limit. But marijuna with alcohol makes a driver much worse than alcohol alone.
But it's a total waste of resources to lock a user up in prison for using it. Prison costing $24,000 to $35,000 annually. And it would free police and courts to deal more with serious offences.
George Washington grew and smoked it as well as several other US Presidents up to criminalization, possibly after? Marijuna like alcohol is simply unenforcable. Like Prohibition, it only makes matters worse. |

yes I do believe it should be legal. The benefits of marijuana are endless. As far as it being a gateway drug, I believe it all depends on the person. That person would probably have began using heavier drugs without or without marijuana. I think it is all about weighing your pro's and con's. Medically marijuana is better for you then any pain medication. It has been proven over and over again with chemo patience. People who believe this wonderful plant put on this earth to help us is an evil object have been corrupted by the media and the government and need to open there minds. |

yes. police have bigger and harsher crimes to deal with than chasing after all the potheads in the world. if it was legal the gov't could tax it and use the money for health care and education. smoking is legal and so is drinking. both are FAR MORE of a gateway drug than pot. most people I knew had drink far before they ever started smoking pot. or took an over the counter pill. lots of things are addictive and destroy people and their families. junkies rob health clinics and pharmacies all the time looking for their next high. have you ever had demerol? WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE |

it calms u down and makes u happy, and there have been no known birth defects in babies of mothers who smoke it |

It should be decriminalized because it would put many criminals and dope peddlers out of business. It would probably be our most lucrative cash crop and growing and processing would develop into a mega industry. Not only for consumption, but there are tons of byproducts that could be manufactured from pot. It would also free up the courts and prisons so the legal system could concentrate on more serious criminals, like murderers, rapists and child molesters. Personally, I love all my brain cells and do not care to subject them to pot, excessive alcohol or other mind altering substances; legal and illegal alike. People who want pot are going to smoke it . Best that it be legally processed for safety sake. One final note. God forbid, if I should develop cancer and have negative effects from chemotherapy. I would immediately go to a country where pot is regulated and legal for my course of treatment. |

No. It makes people misspell words. |

You don't need to know that just yet...

Yes. For medicinal uses as well as recreational uses.
And for everyone who thinks it leads to other drugs have obviously never smoked it.. |

I think so. it`s no different to drinking, well apart from the "i want to find the world" side. It relaxes you, and puts you in a state which probably brings down the stress levels of model life. Why is there such a stigma on marijuana? Go to Amsterdam to understand that it is`nt wrong. I would rather walk round there on my own at 1am, with lots of chilled out people, rather than any major town/city in the u.k. with all the stella/alchopops induced idiots who want to fight .
Glad i got that of my chest!. |

Yes, for it is certainly less harmful than alcohol and, once regulared, the crime aspect of it will fall away |

Both alcohol and marijuana should be both legal or illegal. The harm to society from alcohol use is far greater than with marijuana. It's illogical the way it is.
You'll never win a "war on drugs" when one of the worse is firmly in your trenches legally. |

Based on the fact that it is essentially no worse than alcohol and that a marijauna user is nowhere near the threat to society that a crack, meth,or heavy drinking persons are. The fact that nearly a million people a year are arrested for marijauna (most all of these are for small amounts) when there is a meth epidemic in many parts of the country is a joke. Police officers should be spending their time dealing with real criminals instead. Alas, because of politics, and the unbending argument in their eyes that marijuana is a "dangerous" drug, it never will be legalized. The closest you can come to legalization is some of the western states such as Oregon or California. Sale and growth is still illegal in these states, although if you can acquire a card you can grow for yourself. |

Of course it should. You put a seed into the ground and it grows. What could be more natural than that. What you do with the resulting plant, well do they lock people up for eating brussel sprouts? |

Yes, the two drugs at are legal cause more deaths than Marijuana would if it was legal. So many people die because of Alcohol related accidents and alcohol poisoning, also both alcohol and cigarettes carry addictive tendencies, although some would argue that marijuana is addictive, it has never been proven in laboratories that it has any kind of addictive component. Personally, i think it is the safest drug out there, including those that are legal.
EDIT: also by legalizing it would make it required to be governmently regulated. Many of the problems with marijuana right now is the extras the cut into it. If the government regulated it, it would eliminate those secondary drugs found in marijuana today. |

Yes. Federal drug laws are unconstitutional under the 10th Amendment.
State and federal drug laws infringe on supposedly inalienable rights of man. |

yeah to ease the pain of terminally ill patients. and also, if we make it legal, maybe not as many people will do it (reverse psychology) |

Yes, I have no problem with the legalization and taxation of marijuana. It should be put in the same classification as alcohol.
Alcohol is a controlled substance, we control who can have, when they can have and where they can have it. Marijuana is an uncontrolled substance, it can be had by anyone, anywhere, anytime. So, I say make marijuana a real controlled substance, legalize it!!! |
|

gheeeezzzz!
|
yes
the main people against it are the ones who want society to babysit their children by monitoring our behavior
the tax dollars could pay for healthcare and other deficits
AND new industry growth will occur
marijuana is NOT any worst than alcohol or anything other legal feel good substance
crime would drop tremendously and the jails can be emptied of petty cases where someone was caught with weed |

If kids want to destroy their lives, then let them go ahead. I'm tired of giving speeches and lectures and all that other crap.
It should be legal. Smart kids don't do that, and we already have enough dumb people in our world. Influence is not an excuse, peer pressure is a buch of bologny. |

Marijuana should not be legal. It took quite a while to establish tobacco causes cancer. I am sure the same problems would arise by smoking anything else. |

Yes it should be legalized. Because GOD made every herb and seed for the consumption of Mankind and called it good. The law making it illegal is Blasphemy and discrimination against Christians. |

Alcohol isn't a drug? Then why is it so regulated by the federal government?
Tobacco isn't a drug? Then why is it so regulated by the federal government?
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. Okay, guns aren't a drug. But they tried making booze illegal. Saw how well that worked. Now they're trying it with tobacco.
And 75 years of trying to outlaw the other drugs hasn't exactly eliminated them, nor even reduced their usage. Does anyone REALLY think, with the ready availability of them, that usage would go up even MORE? Them that want 'em are already getting 'em. That's why the DEA is STILL in business. |

marijuana should be legal for its medical usage and no other purpose. For the fear of being abuse, our government had enough laws for the matter. thank you |

Of course.
Marijuana is far safer than alcohol, tobacco, or many of the designer medications advertised on prime time television. This isn't even debatable. Anyone who doesn't want to accept this simple fact can do a 5 minute Google search and find out that I'm right. |

marijuana should be legal because after a few years if its always there people will start to be bored of it, also marijuana is almost impossible to O.D. on and its safer than alcohol, which is legal |
