No. You are already walking into a bar to harm your body with liquor or beer so why bother with cigarette smoke? If you want a drink do it at the house away from smoke or at a restaurant that does not allow smoking. |

Smoking should not be banned anywhere. Freedom gives us choices. When we start limiting choices, we loose freedom. Leave these types of choices up to the business owners. The more we let government regulate what we do and where, the more power they have and the less freedom the citizens have. The Constitution and Bill of Rights were designed by our forefathers to protect the freedom of choices. The answer here is tolorence for others choices, not to regulate and limit them. If you don't want to be around smoke, you have the choice to not go where people are smoking. You don't have the right to regulate what you want or don't want others to do. |

In the US, each individual business owner should be allowed to decide for themselves |

No, not in bars. I agree that smoking should be banned in places you have to go, Court, Jail, DMV, or is owned by the public, Library, etc. then they should be non-smoking.
But I believe that this is a voilation of the Fifth Amendment, when a law is passed that would require private business to be non-smoking. Here they take private property rights away and force him or her to run their business a certain way. I say the 5th because they are taking away something of value; their right to run their business a certain way and letting the public decide how it should be done in doing so they are taking their property for public use and not giving them just compensation.
Imagine if the owner had decided to make his business non-smoking, yet the government forced him to have a smoking section. Would they pay for the damage the smoker's cause? Cover losses when his non-smokers refused to go to his business? And if enough non-smokers stay way and he goes bankrupt would they pay his debts? I don't think so.
Now if a business decided to have smoking and is willing to pay for the damage to their business, carpets, cleaning etc, why shouldn't they? Then if people don't come and they go bankrupt, then it’s because of their own decision. Same thing if the business was non-smoking.
Now the non-smoking crowd is saying that you should have a smoke free work place. What if I don't want one? I looked around and guess what no-body here had a gun to their head and was being forced to work here, if you work in a business and they allow smoking and you don't like if find a different job. Don't say it the only job out there, just look at the unemployment rate.
Ok I'm starting to go off on a rant here, and I think I made my point, for the record I don't smoke and don't like it. I think it's a silly waste of money, but you want too, go ahead light up. |

The govt has no right on telling others how they should run their business, if they want to allow smoking, then it should be allowed. If you don't like it don't go to a bar. Get your alcohol from the store and party at your house. |

I don't think it should be banned. I think it should be the owner's choice. Then you can have some smoke-free bars and some for smoking. I know sometimes I go to bars, as a non-smoker, and then end up going home early because I get a headache and can't take the smokey atmosphere. But sometimes there is nothing like going to a smoke-filled honky-tonk. It's just the atmosphere you look for sometimes, even if it is bad for you, I think you should be given a choice. So I think it would be great to have an option, but I do not think it should be completely banned. |

NO... I hate smoke, but how can you tell a business owner he can not cater to people who do something that is legal?
It should not be banned in restaraunts also. Let the busines owner run their business the way they want. If people don't like it, they will not come to the business. |

Absolutely not. What retard is going to, or working in, the bars for their health? If you've been to a bar in a state that's enacted such a measure, you'll find all the patrons standing outside smoking, instead of buying drinks. It's terrible for business because it's an inconvenience to the majority of the customers, and wholely unnecessary. |

In European Union it is anyway..but whats strange is that lots of money are spent to make people quit smoking..and the effect is reverse.. |

As an ex-smoker who had to fight soooo hard to quit...
Smoking should be banned altogether.
Why do people smoke? Because it's cool? No... It's to get back to feeling normal... The buzz they got the first few times is never coming back...
Every smoker on the planet is basically just procrastinating about quitting smoking... |

I don't think they should be banned completely, but I'm sure eventually it will come to that. Before you could have a smoking/non-smoking place of business if it was a separate well-ventilated room and I have seen some restaurants in my area that have added on for that reason, and then they just ban smoking in buildings completely. Personally, I thinks it's discriminating smokers, but what do I know. The thing is, people go to bars to relax (or whatever else) and have a good time and I just don't think that people what to keep going outside to smoke a cigerette. (That could also mean grounds for public intox to.) So, my answer is no I don't think they should. |
