I'll definitely contribute part of my bonus, that is if Malcolm Turnbull and his mob of upper-class, idle rich party-poopers don't stop us getting it in the first place. |

Absolutely.
So Nerida, Victorians shouldn't receive help because there are floods in Queensland? How about we give them both aid, you stupid idiot.
128 people have burned to death so far - men, women and children.. And what about the poor animals? |

Hail,
Morally I think yes...but wouldn't that kind of ruin the point of a stimulus package? The Hell on Victoria victims (and Queensland flood victims) would most likely use the money to support themselves in this tough time instead of purchasing unnecessary junk (oh god...the irony). I don't think the government would want to go into deficit and not attempt to save the economy.
Giving the stimulus to the families won't really boost the building industry either as...well most houses are insured and will likely be replaced (although probably in different areas completely) within a year. Construction is already going to get a boost (at the insurers expense...lets hope they don't try to weasel out of it), some pennies from the government ain't gonna help with it THAT much.
I feel for the victims but I think using the economic stimulus package...won't stimulate the economy...(Gee I feel guilty writing this). However, a SEPARATE fund or even a PORTION of the stimulus package or a bit of BOTH definitely should go to the fire/flood victims (not enough to ruin the package though).
Cheers |

Well my town in currently in threat of the bushfires, my friends and work colleagues have lost their homes and some of them have lost their lives. Of course the money should be going to the bushfire sufferers. If you people had any idea how terrifying this situation was and how many people are bunking in the high school and the local community centre you would realise how badly the money is needed for the people who have lost everything. The fires are only a few km away from my town and imagine if this town went up when all the refuges are here for some shelter from losing there homes. i say the money should definately go to those people in loss. There is ash and smoke everywhere, i think the fires will ruin everything we all have got, so be generous and think of those who have lost their family friends and homes. |

There should not even be a question, it should go straight to the victims of the fires. Anyone who wants to keep it, should thank themselves lucky that they still have all there family alive and somewhere to live. |

Actually, the best way to deal with it is to shift the allocation of money. Rudd been getting heavy criticism anyway from the Liberal regarding the roof insulation money, that money should be shifted for the bushfires victims (both plans will invigorate the construction sector in australia)
As for the stimulus package regarding Financial bonus, there is no way that the government will allocate all those money to Victoria or QLD, that kind of stimulus package is designed to be
1/3 helping little bit to the poor
1/3 boosting revenue for australian retail/final goods industry
1/3 Raise popularity among voters by giving them money.
A symbolic gesture of a monetary cut on the amount to be shifted might be possible, but not to scrap it all.
Another side of the discussion is the fact that quite a lot of those houses are insured. Government need to make sure that the Insurance company hold their end of the bargain when something like this happen. |

Yes, yes a thousand times yes! We all have to do absolutely everything we can to help the victims of this horrible tragedy.
Mr Rudd is welcome to give my bonus to them, some of the victims are my friends. |

The answer should be a huge YES, myself and my partner were evacuated from Whittlesea on Saturday afternoon, saw first hand the horror and total destruction that confronted all the CFA firefighters and all other services, you do not fully understand until you have been touched by this horrible event. |

Whilst i think its important to support the victims of this terrible and overhelming tragedy and not only the bushfires, there are flood victims in the north that will also require aid i dont feel that foregoing the possible $950 bonus will help a great deal. Whilst they are sadly homeless at the moment and for those who have lost family and friends, so grief struck that most of us would not even begin to comprehend, its something money will never assuage.
All of them should have had insurance which would cover most if not all of the rebuilding costs, costs of purchasing new vehicles etc, etc a stimulus to the economy all on its own, thats not even taking into consideration the stimulus provided by the rebuilding of schools and infrastructure in these devasted towns by the goverment. Overall I think the plan should proceed as proposed so we can all help stimulate our flagging economy. |

They can keep mine and i will willingly give more. It seems so little. I am having trouble comprehending what it must be like being in the fires. The utter destruction. We need as a nation to give all the help we are able - financially, mentally, physically and spiritually. from this the scars will be deep. |

I would personally rather see mine go to support the bushfire victims AND the queensland floods. They all need it more than I do. While it would be nice to have that money in our pockets, to be honest, we don't truly NEED it. I mean, $10 million from the government to these people isn't going to go very far. I'd rather forego my bonus and see that $10 million increased. We weren't planning on spending ours anyway - we were saving for a family holiday, but we don't mind putting that off for another 6 months to help people who have lost everything possibly including their families. In fact, I would feel guilty if I didn't give some of my holiday money. |
