Should the Pro-lifers burn in "hell"?

Should the Pro-lifers burn in "hell"?

How about this great idea of mine. Why don't we as americans and the great "christians" that we are, help out the people that are already on this planet. The people that really need help, the homeless, the parentless, the unemployed, the people on welfare, and everybody else that has been dealt a terrible hand.

Does anybody know the statistics of abortions. What type of situations would the babies have been born in to? Bad or good? We can't take care of the current population, why are we as "christians" worried about the missing people from our neighborhoods
(I've seen the billboards) when we should be worrying about the people dieing of starvation and all of the homeless that died this past winter. Do we even care about them? Do we my fellow "christians"? What about them? What about all of the NEWLY homeless and the NEWLY unemployed, to hell with them right. Lets worry about abortions. We need more ppl on this planet and in this country so we can screw them over too right? Increase the population and let them die in the streets but as long as they don't die in their mothers stomach right? What is wrong with this country? Read your damn bibles again or whatever book makes you feel happy, why do we worry about one cause (killing unborn fetuses) and not the full grown people and children that die everyday.????

Note: Insert your religion in the quotes.
Hell was used to dramatize the question.

I'm not worked up its just a question. Don't assume my political stance, thats what you republicans/religionites love to do. Anything not with your ideals is the other side.

I thought about being mean and sarcastic at first but then I decided against it since you're so worked up over this.

I used to work at a bakery at one of these organic hippie stores full of liberal employees and run by leftist CEO and leadership. We had to throw out all the bread we baked every night cause God forbid anyone have to eat day-old organic bread. But every night a group of church people would come and collect this bread so it wouldn't go to waste. And I might add I had a difficult time convincing store leadership to let them collect it, this company that is supposed to be pro-environment, anti-waste, and supporting the poor starving farmer and that sort of thing. Anyway, these churchpeople came late at night after a hard day's work (in fact, one of them was disabled and couldn't get around easily) and took 8-10 forty lb bags of bread to distribute around homeless shelters around town. They are very devout Christians and I'm guessing very conservative by your standards. And definitely pro-life but hey that means they don't give a **** about the homeless right.

You know that's not true so just stop it.

March Madness
Not all "pro-lifers" are religious, I'm an Atheist and lean politically left, however I believe abortion is morally wrong. That being said, I don't go around getting in people's faces. This website more or less summarizes my stance http://www.godlessprolifers.org/library/jones1.html

I agree with the guy above me, many of our problems stem from a disrespect for people and life. Like you, I also think we should help the people already on this planet, but I don't see how supporting the unborn and those already here are mutually exclusive of each other.

i think the reason there is so much suffering in the world is that people don't respect life in the first place. it's not that pro-lifers, my opinion, desire more people, to me, it's that we AS people should be more responsible. and part of that responsibility is to protect life. if we adopt an attitude of throwing it away in order to live better, then what does better mean?....... pro-life is a standard. it's part of a greater goal for humanity.

One way to look at the question is explored in Freakonomics (I didn't think the book was that great otherwise though). The authors argue that abortion decreases the rate of violent crime; the idea there is that if those women likely to have kids who grow up to be criminals (poor, father-absent, little education, drug abuse, welfare, etc). have abortions, the crime rate goes down about 20 years later. Their argument is correlational; the crime rate in NY dropped significantly about 20 years after Roe v. Wade and is not otherwise explained by increase in police, different policing methods, change in general attitudes, decreases in INDIVIDUAL violence (i.e., the people who were born became as violent as ever), etc.

Many dismiss the arguments in that book as a.) racist and classist, since the majority of abortions are performed on poor minority women and b.) correlational (i.e., you can show the two things may have happened at the same time, but you can't prove one causes the other). On the other hand, if the authors are right and aborting a fetus today may decrease the crime rate 20 years later, this is a strong argument for keeping abortion legal; such women would be aware that they were not capable parents and essentially do a service to society at the same time they do a service to themselves emotionally and financially. If the authors are right I have a hard time objecting to abortion on ethical grounds, if it keeps both women and cities safer and could theoretically prevent my own children from being murdered a generation from now.

I am not sure, however, that the arguments in that book are true, and it does sound a little like eugenics in action to me. If abortion is to be legal I want it to be legal because the woman wants the procedure done safely for her own reasons, not because it does some "service to society".

Often the right-wing 'pro lifers' are the ones most in favour of the death penalty. They are also often anti-welfare, anti-universal health care, and pro-war. That's total hypocrisy to me.

What if you found out the mother of a mass-murderer had been talked out of an abortion by pro-lifers outside a clinic?
