Bring back the birch. Pain is an excellent teacher.
And corporal punishment in schools too. |

Norwich hasn't been the same since the city centre was pedestrianised.
Kill all of the anti-social sub-human scum! |

It would be wonderful, but it is not going to happen..sadly |

Bring back hanging. I don't think the Birch would be a big enough deterrant. Also put all the junkies into tower blocks, move the decent people that live in tower blocks to nicer accomodation, then blow the lot up. It'll be the biggest "Hit" the junkies will ever have. |

yes definitely. We need a no tolerance approach to our problem. And the human rights act has a lot to do with it. There hasn't been any effective punishment for a long time |

If people voted by not paying their council tax, then the government would have to listen and make changes. |

Yes bring back the birch give the police the powers to give them it on the spot without any reprisals in the street in front of everyone |

Yes we should, or at the very least bring in a one years trial and then see the number of gang attacks plumit after they've been flogged to within an inch of their lives! |

a friend of my wife went to Isle of Man on a school trip and while he was there he shot a swan with an air pistol. Not only was he birched, but the ferry back to Belfast was held up so the rest of the school trip could watch. None of them have been in trouble since, especially the guy who was birched. I think it would be a much more effective deterrent to crime than what we have now |

My grandfather came to see me one day when I was younger insensed as he had heard a young adult bragging about being in prison. He was shocked. The thing I always remember is him saying, 'I never heard anyone brag about being birched'.
Since that day I have heard people brag about imprisonment and now I agree with the reintroduction of the birch.
Answer - YES |

Not necessarily the youths that are at fault, but the parents who fail to instil the basic elements of decent humanity in their children.
To bring it to the basic level, a child is an animal who knows nothing, other than what it`s parents teach it, if the parents fail in their natural tasks ie teaching acceptable behaviour, they are as much at fault as their offspring.
Due to todays benefit culture, children are a source of income to some people who think their moral responsibilities end in the maternity ward. |

yob culture only exists because gymslip hippy parents havent properly disciplined their wayward brats, lets talk about why you beat up that elderly gentleman, no lets beat you to within an inch of your life! just retribution if you ask me.
most of these kids s h i t themselves when they are stood up to, bringing the birch back and doing it in public for all to watch would work for a while but then it would become like tags or asbos theyd use it too their advantage as a badge of honour to show how hard they are.
a proper good old fashioned borstal from the old days with hard work and proper discipline and not luxuries thats what they need a bitter sweet taste of reality. |

Birch was the best thing invented. Useful for those dole heads at Heathrow too. Remember that American boy who was damaging cars in Singapore. They gave him 12 strokes of the birch. When he went back CNN offered him a million bucks to film his raw rear and he was too embarrassed to. So it works. He went back to college and stuff but learnt his lesson |

My fella knows a few people that have had the birch (it was only recently outlawed in the Isle of Man ,a British island )
He says one of the hardest men he has ever met refused to remove his t-shirt on one of the hottest days of the year despite the fact that the two of them were alone on a fishing boat 40 miles from land !
Yet he thinks it should be reintroduced in principal but applied in a manner that does not cause permanent disfigurement .
Politician refuse to accept that violence is a natural part of the human genetic makeup and insist on pretending to be tooooo civilised for that old boy . |

yes, simply yes. also i think punishment should fit the crime, if someone is caught doing graffiti then they should be forced to paint every single council building in the city until they are all clean, and if one gets re-sprayed, they have to keep going, that would get the message across |

I think planting trees would be a very positive activity for young people, but why just Birch? Why not Oak or Beech? |

Such punishment is barbaric and would make them out as heroes, prison would be a training ground for them, the parents can't control them so the only way is psychological therapy to try and straighten them out, failing that a frontal lobotomy. How can u change warped evil minds?
Aha! national service would do it! redirect all that negative energy to something useful, maybe they need to feel proud of achievements. |
