I don't think so |

And then how are you gonna spend one? |

No. I realized how many pennies I have because I don't use them. Instead of getting change, I could even it out with my pennies! I'm gonna carry them more often now. |

Yes! Pennies are crap, no one wants them... but they are fun to throw... would anyone throw any other denomination of currency if it weren't crap? |
|

LeAnne
 |
ABSOLUTELY.
The penny has long outlived any usefull purpose whatsoever in our present economy. Most stores even have a penny tray so you don't have to take them with you.
The only reason anyone can conjure up for keeping it is nostalgia - penny candy and 25 cent gas - those days are long gone.
And for the government to keep producing a coin which costs more to produce than its face value is insanity. |

No way...I'm not throwing anything more than a penny in those dumb fountains at the mall. |

No.... there is sales tax to think about... "give a penny, take a penny." |

Yes, they should. It is completely useless. I have hundreds lying around my house. |

It would save money for the government if they did. It costs more to make the penny than it is worth. |

definitely |

Absolutely. It is too small of a denomination to be useful, and it costs more than a cent to produce. It's wasteful. We should stop producing them and let us use up the existing stocks. |

Yes and No.
Yes: It takes more than a penny to make a penny. I believe it cost 17 cents to make one penny. The goverment should come out with bigger amounts of coins, or dollars, but that could lead to inflation, and that would just raise the price of everything.
No: The penny is good for a lot of things. Throwing it in water fountains, finding the lucky penny on the street with a head up.. etc.
In all, yes the goverment should get rid of the penny. I think it will be easier, instead of things being for 99 cents, just make it a dollar, or 95 cents. And for tax on items, instead of like 7 cents, make it 5 or 10. |

No, the penny is a tradition of the USA and should remain in use.
What happens without the penny? They round UP, and who benefits. What is next the nickle? |

Yes, they are useless clutter. I heard that the cost of the copper and zinc, plus the cost of minting and distribution, exceeds $0.01. |

No we feel lucky when we find them and we still need them for when we spend 76 cents etc NO NO NO I still remember penny candies when I was a kid That was such fun. Even two for a penny TEN pieces for a nickel. Those were the days!! |

Atanasia

No. They will round prices up, and we'll pay more for everything. |

 |
no...how would we deal with sales tax? |
|

cbmaclean
|
No. It will contribute to inflation. After taxes, something will cost $1.10 instead of $1.06 and so on...it all adds up |
|

Just_curious
 |
Yes, it cost more than the value of the coins itself. |

And put the Penny container by the cash register making companies out of business? Yeah, I suppose. Too bad for the penny container by the cash register making company in my opinion. |

No, what next? Get rid of the nickle, dime, and quarter ?? Let's just round everything to the nearest dollar. |

No, I need my 3 cents per gallon I save at the gas tank. |

No... if they did, every price would raise to the next highest 5 cents and altho it would not ad a whole lot to costs at once, over the course of a year it would really add up. |
