I think that a more flexible voting age could be instituted IF we include the provision that voters under 18 are able to pass a civics test. A lot of people under 18 know more about government than many adults, so if we allow some 25-year-old secondary school dropout vote without demonstrating any knowledge of how government even works, then a 16-year-old who has been following government issues should be allowed to counteract that.
If we abandon the electoral college system in favour of a popular vote system, I could see this happening in some states. An increased electorate from a state might attract more attention to itself. States can do that as there is currently no prohibition against lowering the voting age. (The 26th Amendment only imposes a prohibition against raising it above 18.) |

If any changes are made, it should be to raise the voting age to 21 like it used to be. |

No...they'll take it as a joke |

No. It should be kept at 18, have you seen half the 16yr olds around?
I doubt any know who even runs for the election. |

j dog

absolutely not....
they are barely capable of driving (and even that is questionable) at 16...
we're going to let them chose the most powerful person on earth???
i'll pass |

No, You need to be in school while the adults are voting. |

no, lets face it we all do rebellious things at this age and cannot contribute very much to society. |

Absolutely not. Never. Ever. Ever. Ever. That would be the worst decision in American politics since prohibition. |

Honestly, it doesn't matter because historically the people who vote are older people anyway. |

They don't even wanna go to school because of a pimple. |

Teens cant even decide what they want to wear, eat or what mood they are having.
There is NO reason teens of that age need to vote, and would only vote for whoever they thought was cool or who their mom told them was "the best candidate" |

I think it should stay 18 |

I think if we lower it the polls will be more easily swaded through bribes and gimmics. Meaning more of this. |

No because kids who are 16 are usually not mature enough to make decisions, especially ones that will affect everyone else around them. I think the voting age is fine where it is. |

no it should not be lowered idiots get too drawn into television programs and believing
idc |

i think it should stay the same because not all 16 year olds are informed and have there own opinion. they just roll with there parents opinions. |

hershey
no a lot probably would pick good people, but too many teenagers won't take it seriously |

i personally am 17 and i don't know enough about politics to choose the right person, then again though, neither do my parents! |

fenwaydav
It should stay right where it's at.... |

I know what I know
16 year olds do not have the maturity to vote. They are also easily swayed to whatever popular view exist at the time. Personally I prefer voting age go back to 21 |

Leah
It should definitely stay the same...the majority of 16 year olds I know are not nearly informed enough to vote... |

Punjabi Munda
yes but no because people would make stupid descions because if someone running for pressident sai they would put a huge party for everyone then the teens would vote for him/her. |

Kristinabelle
Yes, because only the responsible ones who really care would actually spend the time to go out and vote so it's not like you'll be getting idiots voting and ruining the country. Or perhaps there can be an interview or something that determines whether a 16 year old is mature enough to make such a poweful decision.
And besides, older generations tend to be all Democrat or all Republic and the younger generations are the ones who look at issues rather than party. |

No it should be raised to 23. Most kids today are not mature enough even at 18 to vote. One should not be allowed to vote when they still have mommy doing their laundry for them and picking up their room. |

Stay the same because when your sixteen you most likely still live with your parents and are not an adult so kids should not be given the right to something you have to earn and look foward too when you become an adult. |

I think that they should lower it!!!!!!! I also think that if some stupid president is going to change something that effects children, then I think the children should have a say in who the president is!!!! |

Solomon
NO! It should stay the same. |

I'M NOT ON A DIET!!!
stay the same. most teens at that age are are not watching the news to know who would be a good candidate, nor are they mature enough. |

Kimmie
Well..... my son can't even decide on what clothes to wear..... so to make a decision about a ruler/leader of our country......NO! I think voting should be at least 18 if not 21! It takes a mature person to make mature decisions! |
