Should there be a return to corporal punishment in schools and the birch for young offenders?

The youth of today have no respect for anything or anybody and I think it is because they fear no punishment in a country ruined by 50 years of liberalism.
I also think the police should also be allowed to give them a good whack, if they ask for it, with no fear of prosecution

Dear Carlos
I bet you'd just love to photograph some spankings, wouldn't you?

Have you ever heard of a social problem that had a cure but the cure was outlawed so that the social problem could infest a nation? We had a cure for what they call "Acting Out Disorder". We had a cure for Attention Deficit Disorder. AOD sufferers, as soon as they were diagnosed were sent to the Principal's office for treatment. A healthy dose of mahogany was applied to the backside and usually cured the disease with one application. Occasional booster shots were needed, but all in all it was quite effective. Sometimes even the cure was contagious! There was a cure for ADD also. Teacher would simply walk up behind you, smack you on the back of the head and intone a spell, "PAY ATTENTION!"

Yes....flog the hide off the little fcukers!!!.

maybe the rack would be more effective.

Yes. I say bring it back and use it liberally.

well I graduated in 1984. We had a big burly principal, an ex pro football player, who had no problem smacking your *** with a board. It didn't matter who you were or how old you were. He kept the place in line.

I once read a script written by Socrates in AD" I don't know when". He was complaining that yougsters had no respect for anyone, did as they pleased and thought that they were automatically entitled to the best of everything the instant thay decided that they wanted it. Sound familiar? The little sods know they can get away with anything and no-one will dare to confront them. They have all the power. Fear of retribution is the only defence against them. See how brave the little sods are if they know that their victoms can retaliate without the fear of ending up in prison

I'm afraid we are in the minority here, but I agree with you. I went to school in the 60s and 70s and I behaved in school because I feared and respected my teachers. I knew that if I broke the rules, I'd be given "whacks" with a wooden paddle. MORE importantly, I knew that when I got home, I would be punished again by my parents.

It's a breakdown of family values, which has leaked out into the school system. I have to admit that I think we are too far gone to regain ourselves. Pity.

cmdrbnd007
I think there should be. I know when I was in school you had to be respectful or you got "licks." It did the trick, we were much better behaved than the kids these days.

NORMAN W
Yes I agree. Let the kids who act like morons go home with little red ar*e cheeks.

As far as birching, this should become spectator sport instead of football or some other inane so called sport. Let's have some proper sport.

We could place a bet on how many strokes it takes before he screams for him mammy.

How many strokes it ook to draw blood.

The poofters could stand with their hands on their errr wherever they put them when they see a schoolboy's jacksie.

I think it would be great fun and would keep this little monsters in check.

Yeah, give them a good fecking slapping :-)

Why give the police all the fun. There was nothing that would get the classes attention faster than the teacher pulling the paddle out of the drawer and setting it on the desk. At the beginning of the school year the teachers would line up in the front of our class and show us all the nice paddles they made over the summer vacation. It worked, but most importantly, kids got it even worse at home if they got whacked at school. Back then parents understood what rotten little brats their kids could be. Today they are blind or too lazy.

Like hanging, the majority want it but there is nobody to represent the majority anymore. Politicians must toe the party line not the voter's. How ridiculous is it when they announce a certain subject will be a "free vote". That tells you all you need to know.

i say yes .. we need to put discipline back into our youth,

However it is a pipe dream so long as we must dance to the EU and all of its rules, regs and ideas.

it will not happen I'm afraid. great though, better idea, never happen until we tell the EU to P**off

angrymammal
Fifty years of liberalism? you're having a laugh. What about the 17 years of hedonism and selfishness promoted by Maggie and crew? When the seeds of the compensation culture were sown.

if you want to live where you abide by rules because of fear of violence then I suggest you leave, there are a few countries in the middle east that will oblige you.

ponusjoe42
Why doesn't it bother people that beating a kid will some how make them a better person? If mom and dad can't raise their children properly, why would you think that some stranger whacking them will make them a better person?
On the other hand, I do understand that kind of treatment works well in countries like Iraq. You may a point.

S G
I would love to see it brought back as a last resort - when other things have not worked and for serious badness, not just forgetting homework or having the wrong uniform.

For all those kids that said it didn't work, there are 10 that it did work for. But then, the majority did not have to suffer for the minority.

I do think the police should be able to cuff round the earhole and that the birch could be effective for many ie teenage muggers who think the elderly are easy prey - they are usually the biggest cowards and would be more likely to think more about consequences if they experienced this!

Bobyi P
Yes. Let the parents sign a waiver and wail in to the demon spawn :) Or be the parent and not their best friend. If all else fails then stun gun them. Ha Ha Ha! Parents Unite!

WITHOUT QUESTION.

Bob the Boat
Hi Micky.
To some extent I agree. I am far from a namby-pamby liberal, but know that harsh corporal punishment simply does not work
I was given "six of the best" at school for getting caught smoking. What did we do in rebellion ? We casually had a smoke outside the headmasters' office, then ran away.

If young offenders know that they might receive the sharp end of the birch, or a policemans cuff around the lug, then all is over quickly and forgotten about.

It is no deterrent to repeat offending, seemingly.

Folks say National Service, but what about fine students wishing to persue their Uni studies ?

Antway, sadly some police officers already administer harsh on the spot "justice", if they know they are not on CCTV.

Hypocritical ?

Bob
