Yes.
It's as addictive and destructive as any of the other banned substances and it costs the USA a lot of money due to the medical issues arising from its use. |

People should be free to choose for themselves, although it should be taxed to compensate for the harms it causes. |

No it should not. If you want to do something with your own body and it is not effecting anyone else then it should not be stopped.
I feel that laws that limit the use of tobacco in public are completely possible and fair. I am a smoker, but I am working on quitting ATM. I have been to concerts and what not where the person next to me is smoking a cigarette but I don't feel right about lighting one up because I don't want to force other people to breath it in or smell it. |

Well it can be banned because "it's addictive and destructive" as soon as they ban alcohol, gambling, skiing, religion, running, etc. all are destructive and addictive.
When do you wish to give up something you like doing? Since smoking is banned in most public places, smoking is no longer your concern. They have proven that people who smoke live shorter lives, and even though they need lots of medical care, people who live longer (non-smokers) actually cost the industry much more money.
So it sounds like people that want to ban tobacco, just want to come up with one more thing they can try to put their nose it because they have nothing better to do with their pathetic lives.
And as for "TC" it is already taxed a ridiculous amount, how much more do you want them to pay? None of the taxes go for caring for smokers...and I don't see non-smokers paying higher taxes because they live too long. |

I smoke, I am not sick, or have health problems because I smoke. I dont get sick and I dont miss work. I am in better shape than many much younger who dont smoke. I dont like going into a bar where there is a ton of smoke and I understand how people dont like that either. But to even consider banning it, then u need to ban twinkies, red meat, alchol (which is way worse for families and all due to alcholism) fast cars, oh I could go on and on about things that may be bad for you. |
