Why not just give everyone everything FREE!
oh, that's right, someone has to pay or the economy doesn't work. What's wrong with the people who are using it paying for it? |

Funny enough i was talking about how much parking in hospitals are today! i am pregnant and due to go into labour very soon and i am not too sure how much the parking is but i no it is alot! i agree with your first answer, i don't think people staying the hospital should have to pay, we are not going there by choice! And for visitors just a small charge but not as high as it is! I'm from the u.k and our gov do anything they can to get money though so it's no surprise! It cracks me up how our country got in such a financial mess yet we pay through the nose with everything! |

yes, especially for the nursing staff! |

Thankfully the charge is being scrapped in most of Scotland's Hospitals - when My Father was in hospital last year - for a couple of months ..I visited him twice a day - nearly every day ..it cost me a fortune in parking .. |

we have! in Wales. hospital parking charges are a lie, a con, a sham. hardly any of it goes to the Hospitals, or to maintaining the park its self. the vast majority of it goes into the pockets of the private sector. most owners share holders and directors will be ,no doubt, found within parliament. |

Yes, It's a shame when we have to pay for parking to visit a family friend or family that need us there. |

i think its awful that staff should pay, as for visitors then maybe a small fee |

we just about have in scotland and I agree that they should be across the country but there needs to be some way of stopping commuters using them as car parks! |

It is immoral, most of the machines take £ coins and charge eight pounds to park Who has eight pound coins on them when they are going to see a seriously ill relative ??? They should not have the added worry of paying to park. This is scandalous and should be stopped.
Let the big bankers who have ripped us off pay for the car parks, the government found enough money to bail out the banks. |

They already have in Scotland and Wales. It's only we stupid English who still have to pay - same as we do for prescriptions and care for the elderly. |

I think they should offer a discount to those who need to attend regularly. Maybe they could issue a ticket that covers you for a full week or a month at a cheaper price than it would be if you had to pay daily. Bus companies do it for regular travellers so i don't see why hospitals won't. |

No,but the charges must be fairer. |

Car parks are expensive to build and maintain. You either integrate the price into the cost of care or charge for parking.
If these charges were abolished they would have to replace the revenue elsewhere which would mean care would cost more.
I don't think the charges should be abolished. Just do what most able bodied epople do, park a block away and walk over. |

Then who would pay for it? |

our hospital is near the city centre, if the hospital did not charge for car parking they would have the problem of shoppers / rail users using the car park, rather than the patients/visitors. they have to charge and its only £1.00 per hour |

Yeah, we should scrap the charges.
I'm up in Scotland at the moment and they don't charge up here.
New Labour's PFI scheme has been a disaster. |

YES. IT'S LEGALISED MUGGING ON A GRAND SCALE.
I'm shouting this because I don't know how to scream!
Even my daughter has to pay to park and she's an unpaid student at a local hospital!
The parking is free in Scotland and about to be in Wales but we continue to be charged. |

I don't see why not. My main hospital is right next to Tesco and people can and do park in the Tesco car park and walk up to the hospital.
My hospital have a charging system in place whereby you pay for each visit or you buy a weekly ticket for a fraction of the cost.
I do think it's expensive though - to park there and take my child into A & E at night to visit the on Duty Doctor from the local Doctor surgery has cost me £2.50 for a half hour visit. Then again, I would rather pay that and get my child seen then let them be in pain until the surgery is open. |

Hospitals have to pay for the road surfacing and repair of car parks, the lighting of them and for someone to monitor their use to ensure fair play and make sure that no-one gets blocked in by someone else. If they didn't charge, then this would have to come off the money used to pay doctors and nurses and provide medication. So, no, I don't think they should be free of charge. |

I think u shouldnt have 2 pay to park in the hospital car park as long as you are obviously going to the hospital. |

Yes we should abolish pay parking at hospitals (its a place where we don't necessarily want to go).
I don't see where pay parking works our health care service has not benefited in terms of extra staff or better services/patent care. And I don't see any improvements to parking at my local hospital.
I think its all complete madness. I don't mind paying for something where we can see benefits but I do mind when facilities such as this is used purely for profit.
I accept that it costs money to build and maintain car parks however it also costs money to maintain hospitals. That's why I pay my taxes along with others. Lets see the money go directly to the hospitals then I will perhaps take a different view.
In the meantime all hospital staff deserve the thumbs up for all the work they do. |

Yes, I had to attend A & E after I nearly severed my finger and you try looking for change with blood pouring down your arm, it's a disgrace expecting people to pay when they have had an accident. Also car parking change is the last thing on people's minds when they have an accident. |

I think it's dreadful to charge visitors to park at a hospital. What choice have some people got but to park there? If they are elderly or infirm and have a relative or friend spending a long time in hospital, how are they supposed to get there without using a car? |
|

tracymae64

That is the choice of the individual hospitals. They are most generally privately owned and government should mind their own business. |
