rights of any other prisoner? That is the question, the reason why it costs more to keep an offender alive than to kill him is because those who are sentenced to death have the right to more appeals than do the other prisoners. How is this fair? I thought the rule of law stated that the law is to apply equally to all, how is it applying equally to all when those on death row are being given the right to more appeals than those accused of less serious offenses?

I understand, some have been falsely convicted, don't you think there's people that have been accused of less serious crimes who have been falsely convicted as well? Do you think it's fair for them to have to sit in prison for a crime they did not commit?

The reason there are all of those appeals is because it would be considered a lot worse by most Americans (rightfully so or not) to murder an innocent person than to let one rot in prison. Unfortunately, in many cases, the person would rather be dead than sit in prison for decades, even if they are guilty. |

a person can have as many appeals as they want as long as new evidence resurfaces or their is evidence of wrongdoing during a trial (misrepresentation by lawyer, etc)
a person with life imprisonment can be set free any time during their sentence. you cannot free a person who has already been killed by the state. |

Here is a simple answer for you...eliminate the death penalty and then all prisoners would have the same rights! An added advantage would be that it would be much cheaper to incarcerate them and the possibility of killing an innocent person would be eliminated! Simple, huh? |
