medicinal reasons, and now it seems that Me. and Vt. are about to do the same, only all legal, like alcohol, I could not agree more....how bout you?...

I honestly think we should. I find it no different if not safer than alcohol.
I am not too sure the reasons why it is illegal in the first place other than the fact it is too easy for people to make in their own homes and our government feels they would not get their cut in taxes if it was legal. If it was legal though and they did tax it the government would benefit greatly.
They make excuses and say it is a "gateway" drug, but it really is not. I have known plenty of people who smoke and have never touched another drug in their life.
It is already such a relevant drug. All differnet kinds of people from different demographics smoke. The teenager, the college student, the business man or woman, the homeowner, the retired.
They need to just regulate it like everything else. Make a legal age to buy it, create some sort of test like a sobriety test if you would choose to drive while your high. Although must people have no desire to drive high, they would rather just chill out at home.
Will there be people who abuse it? Of course there will just like people who abuse alcohol, but I doubt we will see a lot of people going into work high. Most smokers are already responsible people who just like to have a fun time.
I also think the world would be a much more happier loving place if it was legal and we would not have so much hate. |

Yes.
Regulate and tax it I say. |

Of course it should be legal... You get way more impaired from drinking than smoking. Makes no sense.
EDIT:
As far as it being a "gateway drug", how many people smoke their first joint before they've tried their first cigarette? Tobacco is the real gateway drug in my opinion.
EDIT #2: I don't smoke cigarettes, but I did of course try one or two as a teen. And honestly, I don't smoke weed anymore. I've got more important things to do-- I've got kids. But I'm not against it and I'll never believe it should be illegal. Of course you could become a huge stoner with no ambitions, but what about alcohol and alcoholics? People just need to have priorities and be responsible, be it weed, alcohol, or whatever. |

If they make weed legal, it is only so they can tax it.
I think it would be alright to legalize as long as it has restrictions placed on it like alcohol. |

I think weed should be treated the exact same as alcohol since they both have the same degree of effect on a user (actually pot doesn't tend to mess me up as much as alcohol). The government could sell it and people could buy it from them and they could guarantee it's purity, like beer distributers do today... or people could still continue to buy it on the street and wonder about the quality, like when people made their own moonshine.
Looking at it from a purely economic standpoint, the government is currently SPENDING money on an un-winnable "war" on drugs. They need to just admit failure and realize that people are still going to use drugs - legal or not - and make some money off of it. |

Wow, I wish they'd do that in England. It would mean less street dealing and they'd be able to tax it. I really don't understand what the government dont want to make it safer for people to smoke weed, they're gonna do it anyway and it's only from the ground for god's sake. Come on England, get with the program! |

Legal with minimum age 18. Laws like alcohol (besides 21 age), keep it private.
Victimless crime that taxpayers are killed with to fight. Talk about a war that we are losing, the drug war. |

all drugs should be legal, regulated, controlled, and taxed by our government ... but our government has other objectives, like galloping around the world terrorizing innocent people. |

Assuming it would also be legal to grow your own for personal use then perhaps. Otherwise hell no!
It's expensive enough without the Govt putting their sin tax on it too. Besides, that would take half the fun out of it.
Inbigtrouble - YOU are incorrect. Marijuana DOES slow down your response time and cuts down on focus. If you don't think so then you're sh*t must not be very good.

no it should not be made legal, ive seen enough old friends piss there lives down the toilet as weed leads to coke which leads to pills then leads to a dead end life style with no aspirations, id rather not be able to see my close friends end up like this because of a law that will implode its own nation |

i think it should be legal once we ahve a way of testing weather or not someone is driving under the influence of it. |

I can see for medicine purposes but only then on very strict purposes. As far as just for enjoyment and I can't see it. It does have effects whether on long or short uses. It can no way be compared to cigarettes, as some smokers claim. I don't believe in any mind altering drugs which marijuana is one and always be one. |

Washington did that a number of years ago. But remember it is still a narcotic according to Federal Law and Federal law trumps all state laws. So if your growing pot or selling in mass quanity watch out for the DEA. The local cops wont care once the bill is passed. I think weed should be legal in all 50 states!
As to the person above me, you have obviously never smoked weed, if you had you would know there is no affect on vision, or reaction time. Therefor you can drive like you normally would. Weed just makes you relaxed and hungry! |

I used to be a major fan of weed and I smoked more than I should, but now I realize that it really doesn't help anyone do anything except be stupid and eat junk food.
I don't think it should be legal because it would give people especially young kids a reason to smoke it. We have enough problems with legalized vices such as alcohol and smoking. People who say weed is harmless are living in a dreamworld. Anything you breathe in that's on fire is harmful to your lungs. |

I do not believe that reefer should be legalized even for medicinal purposes. Once it is legalized for those purposes, I believe the government will begin deciding whether or not to legalize it for recreational purposes (just like alcohol).
I am not against marijuana by any means, but once the government begins regulation, they will begin putting additives and all kinds of things in the weed, possibly even causing it to become addictive once they see how high the demand is. This is the same thing they did with tobacco when they came out with cigarettes.
For now, I say just keep it illegal so we keep getting the real stuff and keep the government away from it.
So please, all of you people asking them to legalize it, just stop. You're doing more damage than you think. |

I only agree partially for medicinal purposes, but I have seen a lot of people screwed up by weed. |

In a couple months, I will have a lot of weed growing in our yard. Most of them are yellow, then they turn a fluffy white and the seeds float away on the wind. They are called dandelions. They really are a nuisance, and should be outlawed. I don't understand why someone would want these weeds in their yard, and be an advocate for it.
*EDIT* - It does make some pretty good wine, so I guess the dandelions could be legal.
*EDIT2* - I didn't know you could smoke dandelions. |
