The actual dollar amount paid changes when you start taking into consideration the seniority system and time away from work for things such as child bearing and family maintenance -- traditionally, it's the mother who runs kids to their doctors appointments and takes time off to be home with them when they are sick. All of which plays against them when it comes time to calculate seniority. They get paid (by law) the same hourly wage as do their male counter parts. Trouble is, they begin to lag behind on the corporate ladder due to "family obligations" and in that, you begin to see a glass ceiling and cap on salary.
Should we make allowances to make up for time off? No. If you're not at work, you should not be creditied seniority as if you had been (working all along). Should men pick up an equal amount of slack in raising their families? Yes. |

Equal Pay for Equal Work. The key phrase is EQUAL WORK. If they start working at the same time(raises can be based on the length of time at a place) and have the same qualifications and do the same job then they should be paid the same. |

If a woman is performing the same job as a man, at the same competence level as the man, then they absolutely should receive the same pay. If they're not performing at the same level of competence, they should not be receiving equal pay.
I don't think a MAN who is not performing his job at a substandard level to his colleagues should be getting equal pay along with the rest. |

I'd say that all else being equal (time on job, seniority, performance reviews, etc), then yes, a woman should be paid the same as a man for doing the exact same (not "equivalent") job.
But all things are generally not equal. |

Of course they should . It's really a silly question . |

Everyone should receive the same pay for the same work no matter what it is. This means there should be no barriers for anyone. This means all people should have a right to work reguardless of their race, gender, color, etc. This would end affirmative action and implement the right to work, which doesn't exist in most states. The Democrat Party opposes people having the right to work. The Democrat Party supports people being forced to join a union as part of accepting a job in many states and with this comes being forced to pay union dues, which mostly go to the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party also opposes people being promoted and hired based on their qualifications. In many areas you have to hire people based on the color of their skin and this is wrong. The Republican Bush administration was the most diversified with the most minorities in history and this was based on quality of individuals, not color of their skin. |

Yes I fully support the concept of equal pay for equal work or even comparable work. There is no valid reason for one gender to be paid more for doing the same job. |

I sa y pay should be based on performance. |

There are other factors involved, such as experience.
When adjusting for these factors, the average overall female salary is equal to the average overall male salary. In fact, young, unwed women get paid more than young, unwed men. |

If it's the same job, same amount of work, same company and the person has the same experience level, of course. There are a lot of factors involved in assessing fair compensation... |

Well, that depends on what you mean by "should." If you mean should there be government involvement, then no.
If you mean that it is moral to pay two people the same amount for the same work, then yes. |

It depends on the job and their performance, and it goes both ways. Women make more in tips in service industries due to men tipping them for their looks etc. Just like a man might perform better in a shipping company loading boxes onto trucks. |

Yeah, as long as the woman would be as productive and effective as the man.
If they would be half-assing it and slacking off, then no. But that goes both ways.
Equal amount of work, equal type of work, equal amount of pay.
Plus, it's the law... |

Unless they are single mothers paying for child care; then they should get a little more.
Otherwise; equal work-equal pay
(lighten up people...it's a joke... ) |
