Should you be allowed to protect your property and family from house breakers with force, like in U.S.?

It is a tricky situation to protect yourself and your family, here in Kansas, a man shot and killed an intruder, he was free from federal prosecution, but he could have been held on civil charges by the intruder's family.
It is also true that if your dog bites an intruder, or he gets hurt on your property(cuts his arm breaking the window) you can be sued, also if you shoot him it cannot be in the back or it is consider that he is "running away" even if he is facing the wall your stereo is on.
The laws need to be changed to protect the people in general, and not the criminals.

Yes...but rememeber..if you want to shoot them..make sure it kills them..otherwise they can press charges on you and you could end up in prison.

Yes you definitely should. In fact responsible adults should be able to keep a licensed firearm in their home. Unfortunately British governments will never allow law abiding citizens to protect themselves and family adequately. Consequently only the criminals are armed.

It actually is now lawful in the U.K. to protect yourself and your family to whatever extent is necessary - you can even kill an intruder as long as you are convinced that your life or the lives of your family are at risk.

I was told by a policeman a few months ago that if a burglar brok into my house and slipped on a wooden floor and perhaps broken a leg etc., he could sue me......the law is an absolute ***!!

there was even a case where a man shot and killed his next door neighbor's husband when a spousal fight spilled outside to the front yard andh e feared for the neighbors ( the wife ) safety, and shot and killed him, no charges were filed. there is a famous saying
I'ld rather be tried by 12 thand carried by 6. even if you do get charged, some juries simply will not convict if they feel sympathy

I think in most countries a citizen could claim self defense in the case of home invasion. If you fear for your or your family's safety, then force reasonable to the offense seems forgiveable (reasonable meaning no shooting a missionary because he sticks his brochure holding hand through the doorway).

Of course, there can be no excuse for using unregistered or illegal weapons during said self defense.

yes you should be able to do as you feel fit to them, they should enter YOUR home at their own risk! and if anyone enters my home, THEY WILL regret it! its my house, my children in it, i paid for the things, i lock my doors, and i hate people that steal so be warned lol

I think you have to look at this objectively for a second. Would you beat the living crap out of a child who was in your garden to collect their ball? what about a drunk who falls over your wall and into your front garden?

I think we should be able to defend what is inside our homes with whatever force we can but we have to draw a line somewhere or we will descend into chaos.

Yes, you can. If you believe that you or other occupants of the property are in danger you may use reasonable physical force to protect yourself or others. You do not have to wait to be attacked.

youre allowed to use reasonable force - and I think thats fine. If you shoot the guy 20 times, than I think you should go to jail as youre clearly a lunatic
