If you have a valid permit and local laws permit it, sure. A lot of polling places are in schools though. I don't think that's a good idea.
Personally I don't really see the need in carrying a gun into a polling place. This isn't Iraq, I don't think someone's gonna shoot me for who I vote for, its a secret ballot anyway. Besides, I vote absentee so it's at the courthouse and you can't carry a gun in there anyway. |

I think so. Why not? Isn't that what the permit is for? |

It Depends were if the place is dangerous probaly if not no, but it would still be a good idea |

Of course you should be allowed, if you are doing so within the law. Whether you OUGHT to is another matter entirely. |

that should be up to the owner of the building where the poll is taking place. if it is a public building then it would be up to the city to decide. i personally do not see anything wrong with it as long as you aren't pointing it at anyone or waving it around or anything. of course only if it is legal and they have permit. |

That's crazy. If the police aren't allowed to carry a weapon, why should he be allowed to? I say No!! |
|

No you should not. With something that is that charged of a situation there should not be any form of leathal weapon allowed for the safety of all present. |

I don't get your point, that's like saying can I take a gun into the bathroom with me, who needs a gun to do either thing. I think you should be able to bear arms but keep in mind so does everyone else in the USA. |

my avatar's hot!

It depends on the state law, some states are pretty specific about government places, others aren't so tough.
I don't have a problem with it, our local polling place is a volunteer fire house! :) |

No unless you plan on changing some minds . I hope this is not the case. |

Well yes as long as it is holstered and not active. It should be dismantled and wrapped up. You jsut cant take it in randomly. Also inform the local police dept bfore you do this. Arrange for it to be done properly. |

A sample ballot is more useful. |

By all means yes.....where else could get so many liberals into one place at one time. |

Law or no law, walking into a place of people with conflicting beliefs with a gun, AFTER being asked to leave it behind by the Police (who by the way aren't by law allowed to carry a firearm at a polling place) is being antagonistic and is not, as the defendant stated, "doing it to protect his family". If that was the common concensus then everyone would carry a gun and election days would end with a bloodbath. |

Absolutely not! Unless you're an officer of the law, you don't need to be carrying weapons around wherever you go. I personally think that concealed weapon licenses are issued way too easily. In my opinion only those working in law enforcement should be issued those licenses, but I'm sure some will disagree. |

No way, who or what would anyone have to be afraid of at a polling place besides the permit to carry clearly states that it's not legal to carry any place where there is a gathering of people. |

HELLO! Where is YOUR polling place located? Deinately not. If they do start taking guns to polling places I will not be voting....except an absentee ballot! |

hi, i read the story at the website u posted. i think that the sheriff did the right thing by telling that person to leave his firearm in the car. why would he want to wear a gun in a polling place anyway? he didn't have to defend himself or his family there. so my answer to your question is no u should not be allowed to take a gun to a polling place. bb, nobrethequeen |

If a person went throught the training and had the background check then they should be able to take a firearm anywhere they travel. The obvious exceptions are buildings that have their own armed security and that is not polling places.
What do you think they are going to do? Force people to vote a certain way? |

Well no.. i dont even encourage you to bring a gun to the public. Firearms in america are used to protect yourself from burgalers/ intruders/murders. etc
( in australlia your not even allowed a Firearm ) |
