Non-smokers are extremely selfish. I have to breathe your car fumes, bus fumes, factory fumes, etc.etc.etc. Where's the blanket bans on that? It is actually amazing to me that you can't see the obvious answer. Have smoking pubs and non-smoking pubs. If you have a restaurant with a non-smoking section, have a proper glass or wall between the two places. Here in SA we have no smoking in a public place, except bars and restaurants that have very strict smoking and non-smoking areas and believe me, they are completely separated so that no smoke comes anywhere near the non-smoking section. This suits me fine and it suits the non-smokers too. Restaurants are also allowed to have only 25% of their floor space converted to smoking areas, the rest must be non-smoking. Now why can't such a comprise be made? You as non-smoker can choose to go to a non-smoking pub or sit in properly separated non-smoking area in a restaurant. And by the way, I like to go out and eat and socialise as well. I don't want to rush in, eat and rush out again but like to linger over wine and coffee etc. |

Get a life, smoking is outdated. dirty, and unhealthy.
I'm Glad the government is introducing this ban, it should have been done years ago. |

i smoke in my back garden
its a good thing(the ban)
why should we force other people to inhale our smoke.
they choose not to smoke.
we choose to smoke, get over it & take other peoples health in consideration. |

Get over it!! People in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have had to get used to the ban so why can't people in England? Stop moaning and get used to it because it probably won't ever be reversed. |

If smoking bans are so harmful to the economy, how do California and New York manage to survive?? They both have had indoor smoking bans for years, and they seem to be doing just fine.
Sure, some small local bars closed, but here's a thought... If you love your local pub, DON'T PUNISH *THEM* FOR THE BAN BY BOYCOTTING THEM! Show your support for them by giving them business. It's so stupid that people who are mad about the ban take it out on their local business owners by avoiding them. The local business owners are just following the rules. |

The smoking ban is one of those topics which is always going to ruffle feathers but I personally think it's yet another right we are having taken away.
I completely agree there should be no smoking in enclosed public spaces but it seems to have extended to places like bus shelters and for some reason there is a loophole (isn't there always?) which allows smoking in "private" workplaces e.g private nursing homes etc.
Also I don't agree with the council funded "officers" who will be patrolling places to make sure no-one smokes where they shouldn't be. What a waste of money! Why not put on more police officers, put more funding into that instead?
Another arguement that it's a right being taken away from us is why were bar owners not allowed to register to have special "smoking" bars, pubs etc? Many tried, but all were turned away under this so called "blanket" ban.
People will always smoke, and younger people will always smoke if they want to. I don't think a ban is doing anything beneficial to the general health of all of us apart from lining the greedy pockets of government and council fat cats. |

Public places should ban smokers.
I was a smoker for fifty years and never minder the ban thing. There are plenty of places I can smoke if I want to smoke.
No I do not smoke now. I do not say anything to those that do because if i do not like it I can go. I do not allow anyone to smoke in my house for any reason.
Get used to it because it is not going to be smoke where you please any longer. |

And in addition to taxes, all the people you kill with your habit.
Where you smoke at home or in other peoples home, add children to your murder list. |

Contact Cherrie Blair. I understand she will fight the ban
for those with the right kind of notes! There again she is
money orientated. "Owt for nought" is her motto! |

Here's the problem: Whether you smoke or not, it is unconstitutional to ban it. I don't smoke. Does anyone out there realize that allowing basic freedoms to be outlawed and eventual government control over individual rights starts with stuff like this? Soon, restaurant food and coffee will be banned by the health police. Either we all have civil rights in a FREE America or we allow our freedoms to be hacked away little by little. Think outside the box. Maybe you hate smoking like I do - but in this country, do we have a right to keep those who CHOOSE to smoke from doing so? Maybe tomorrow, something YOU like and do will be outlawed by the behavior police and then, you'll realize the bigger picture. |

The pro-smoking lobby call themselves "Forest". One of their leading lights is Anthony Warrel Thompson, the TV Chef. He wants to allow smoking in is restaurant[s].

There's a high court action taking place to overcome the smoke ban, possibly for private clubs. Also a lot of restaurateurs want smoking sections etc. The argument is that the smoking ban is an infringement of human rights etc possibly under the EU charter of same.
Good luck. |

What about our rights to breath in smoke free air? To not get second hand smoke? Your dirty habit affects us as well in case you forgot about us.
Most other countries so far have just gone on about it. I don't see what the big deal with England is. |

Yea that's going to happen! I am a smoker and when that law hits Michigan eventually I will no longer go into restaurants or bars or any place smoking is banned! Bars are especially going to suffer because of this law because I have A LOT of friends that are NON-smokers,but they do smoke when they are drinking. There is nothing we can do about it and if you think about it logically it is a fair law for restaurants and places like that because there are children and stuff there. In a bar though that's ridiculous because even the non-smokers there are putting alcohol in their bodies, not too concerned with their own health either obviously so whats the problem with a little smoke inhalation. |

What you are saying is incredibly selfish. I choose not to smoke because I don't want horrible black lungs like you have so why should us non smokers have to put up with your habit. I am so happy this ban has come into play, now I can go into a club and not come out smelling like an ash tray.
Deadman that is such a stupid thing to say don't you think all us non smokers will contact the police and then the owner will get in trouble and make sure you do not smoke in there again.
We are not saying that people can't smoke it is just not allowed in pubs and clubs. If we were saying smokers were not allowed to smoke then you would have a point. |

The trouble with smoker's rights is they always seem to involve blowing smoke over non smokers. Outside is fine but smoke anywhere inside and a smoker will inevitably be polluting the air. Having non smoking areas did not work because the smoke from the smokers blew into the non smoking areas. Anyhow, smoking is revolting and disgusting. It makes people's breath stink and their clothing even if it doesn't give soemone cancer. |

at the end of the day they are not going to have smoking inspectors or police in every indoor place in the country, chances are you could smoke inside and get away with it. even if some jobs worth gives you a fine, just give him a fake name and address and the fine will never arrive in the post.
smoking and drinking in pubs is probably the oldest past time we have in britain and it is an integral part of our history and society, even today. i for one love a ciggy and a beer in the pub after work on a friday.
we are slowly being forced into a nanny state that is going to control everything we do.
political correctness is just another way to control us and what we think and say about certain things.
we should give the establishment the finger and smoke inside anyway. |
