YES...YES...YES !!!!!
Ban Smoking from EVERY where !!!
Once THAT's done, then ban Alcohol from
every where... after that, then go after Auto
manufactures...then maybe religions... and
then...............
well, you know what ? Let's ban anything
and everything that hurts someone else...
hurts the environment... hurts the economy...
and just go back to the Neanderthals .
Yes, I'm a smoker !
You ban smoking and you create another
'Prohibition'. But what's even worse, I can
promise you it won't stop there. And how
loud will you screem when they decide to
ban the Bible ?????? |

I disagree. Whatever happened to freedom? If we allow this, next, the government will be telling you what you can and cannot eat. Wait, they already are doing that in NYC. And after that, somebody will start whining about something else and before you know it, we have a communist society where the government controls EVERY aspect of your life. If you do not want to be around smokers, stay away from them. I don't smoke but I believe it is a persons right to do so just like it is your right not to patronize a business establishment that allows it. Wake up before it's too late and whiners, shut up, you are destroying our way of life. |

i'm undicided on this! i think to a point they should ban it all together but then you are taking away peoples freedom of choice!?! where does it end? |

As a smoker I both agree and disagree with this idea.
Since I'm too much of a whimp to stop this deadly habit I like the idea of having my options restricted to at least make smoking more difficult.
As a believer in individual liberty I hate the big brother encroachment on my personal choice. |

I hate smoking. Period. But... outdoors... *away* from entrances of public buildings... they can do what they want. They want to be stupid and kill themselves *outside*... let em... as long as me and my kids don't have to smell it. |

I wonder once you start restricting people where will it stop? It's only a matter of time before restrictions are placed on something you do. Supposedly this is a free country, lets keep it free. Suppose we ban emissions from fireplaces. How about banning smoke from barbecues, shown to contain carcinogens similar to tobacco smoke? Lets arrest people who pass gas in public. I find that much more repulsive than smelling someones cigar or pipe tobacco! |

by having a smoking ban for the outdoors, it would only be in highly public areas.... for example, outside grocery stores and malls
I am a smoker and i agree with the bans....
I do not smoke around those who dont, nor do i smoke in areas where there are children or elderly people
I dont think others should have to pay because I want a cigarette.... its not fair to them.... and when I quit smoking, I wouldnt want someone else blowing their smoke in my face |
|

Hey Damnâ„¢ you

i think its ridiculous to ban smoking outside. Yes,keep it so many feet away from entrances to public places, but its outside, give the smokers a break! I'm not a smoker, but I thought that I lived in the USA,where we had some freedom...
Makes me think, some states allow ppl to get guns easily, but other ppl cant smoke? Very Odd..... |

STOP the PC control.
I don't like smoking.
I can't like the government controlling more and more aspects of people's life. |

It is an absolutely asinine idea. Don't we have enough problems without entertaining crap like that. I can't wait for global warning to really take hold. All this senseless garbage will go by the wayside and the idiots who think about such crap will undoubtedly die first when the food struggles begin in earnest. |

Ummmm... Ok. So we can't smoke inside... And we can't smoke outside..... Why not just ban smoking and make the patch readily available to the general public? That would make all the sense in the world. Unfortunately the smoking companys control too much money and political function to ever let that happen...
Take care of gas prices before you pick on us lowly smokers... That's what I have to say... The price of gas is almost justifying my habit... I could buy a pack of smokes or a gallon of gas.... Hmmmmm.... Cancer or deplete the ozone layer.... It's a tough choice, same price. |

Sarah,
First of all, I don't smoke. Second: I wish that the world-changers would concentrate on teen pregnancy, nasty violence on TV, DUI's, drug and alcohol use, stinking results in education tests nationwide, political screaming and yelling (for points). Lots of things to choose from - eyeballing folks having a smoke in someone's field is ludicrous. God, give us some enjoyment! |

I don't think it's a matter of restricting people's freedom. If smoking were something that affects the smoker only, it would be a matter of personal freedom, but when the concequences of his decision are affecting the air we ALL breath and the health of OTHERS it no longer becomes a matter of personal freedom but of order and fairness for everyone. Smoking not only affects negatively the life of the smoker, but the environment and health of others around him or her, if your neighbour burned tires every time he smoked a cigarrette wouldn't you think that he is not only affecting his health but yours and the envoronment's? Wouldn't you want to stop it? Or restrict it to himself only? That is what the new laws are trying to do, restricting the smoke of a smoker to him or herself so others' freedom is not infringed.
I am all for freedom, but this is not a matter of personal freedom but of order and fairness to those who do not smoke and the rest of the environment. No one can deny the fact that we share the air. We all end up breathing whatever is in the air.
If you smoke, c'mon, its a vice, you yourself are not free from it. It controls you, you do not control it. So think twice before you speak about your personal freedom.
Cheers!! |

Smoking near someone seems to be one of the only things that can kill someone without any sort of penalty.
It is illegal to drink and drive.
It is illegal to kill someone with any type of weapon, poison (except smoke), or anything else.
It is illegal to fire weapons at people.
It should be illegal to expose others to harmful smoke.
If you want to smoke in your home, car, or yard, enjoy. |

I am a smoker and agree with both sides here. I do have the Right to do what I want. If I want to smoke then I shall do so. I agree others have a right to not be invaded by my smoke. That too is okay and a balance must be fair.
The real issue here is personal freedom to do what is Legal. I am tired of everyone that has a cause that we shouldn't do this and we shouldn't do that. I am a smoker so I am on the Target list of the anti-smoke Nazis. They and the rest of the "cause" of the day crowd feel I don't have the right to smoke, or have a gas blower or eat trans fats or anything that may offend them.
I can compromise on smoking around people that don't like it. That really isn't that big a deal. That is until they try to take all of my space and want to dictate how I live my life. If people keep giving in where will it stop? |

I agree. I don't like walking through someones smoke. I have a hard time breathing around the smoke. |

I think the bans are out of control and have gone too far. I believe someone should have the right not to breath in my smoke but to ban it everywhere in violating my rights, it may not be a great right but it is my right. I think smokers need to ban together get a high priced attorney and fight some of these bans, not all just some. |

well, i sort of agree because smoking kills and damages your body big time to the point where you'll die unless you quit (which all you smokers out there should do. alcoholics too. and druggies. but anyways, back to the point). however, i also kind of disagree because it's not being considerate to smokers, but that basically brings me back to my first point, so yeah, i guess i do mostly support that article. |

The air is full of many impurities. People who feel like smoking outside is bad are crazy. Every time you pass a mac truck, you are at the same risk. So does that means we should ban mac trucks? |

Yeah as a smoker I hate it. I can get a ticket now for smoking in my car at the drive thru ...bull...there needs to be a compromise ...i guess we can all keep dreaming though right |

I disagree. It is stupid how if a few people don't like what someone else is doing then they ban it. So they want to ban smoking, but not abortion (aka murder). Whats wrong with that picture. I don't even smoke and I feel this is wrong. Also like said earlier. You run the same risk walking past a started car. Should we ban cars then? No. |

TOTALLY agree
1)damages smoker's health
2) damages non-smoker's health (this is TRUE)
3) damages enviorment
4) contributes to global warming
5) ever thought about what little kids might think about smoking? |
