Well I am in Scotland, and I am not really bothered where the cigs are, as long as I can still buy them !
But I did hear that they were considering making smokers apply for a permit to smoke, a yearly smoking licence so people cant buy them without a permit. This is outrageous!! Although, I think I would stop smoking if they made me pose for a licence photo with a cig hingin oot mi moo! haha

They are taking away all freedoms.
Worse in the states. |

i think it's stupid. smoking is a choice, and i don't see how someone would be compelled to start smoking just because of a sign advertising the cigarette. people will never be satisfied. if people have such a problem with it, the government should be working to eliminate cigarettes completely, not attempting to stop people from starting in uneffective ways. |

Couldn't care less to be honest, if people want to choose to smoke death sticks thats their choice as long as they don't do it around me or near people who can't help it, i.e. young children. |

I don't think that removing cigarettes from display is going to stop people buying them. Teenagers will still fold under peer pressure, smokers will still smoke. Maybe in the long run it would benefit future generations but who knows? |

I don't think thats a good thing. Smoking is a choice. People know the risks that are involved in smoking but it is their choice to do it.
I smoke. I know that it can cause cancer but i do it anyway. smoking is my choice and if that ban comes to america then i'm going to call down the first amendment on that real fast...thats just not right. people should have the say in what they buy and what they do without stupid people trying to take everything away. |

I don't think its good to smoke, but that doesn't mean I have the right to make that decision for everyone and whoever thinks they can is full of themselves. |

I don't know why all the focus is on cigarettes ... Liquor kills more people than cigarettes do..... |

I guess the question is -- what purpose do they serve being on display? If you're already a smoker, you know what kind you like and where to buy them; you don't need to see them. Most smokers don't browse the available cigarette packages in order to determine which one to buy (price may be an issue, but I don't think the restriction extends to not putting a price list up). And non-smokers aren't going to see a pack of cigarettes and say, "Hey, I want to try that! It looks fantastic!"
So I don't see why it's a problem; I don't think it will affect sales either way, with the exception being someone who doesn't know the rule and thus assumes that no cigs on display means no cigs for sale. That should resolve itself in short order, though. |

AMAZING idea
do not like cigarettes.
HORRID.
In biology at the moment we are looking at the ages of peoples lifes, if they have never smoked if they live longer.
92% of people live a longer life if they do not smoke.
A boy died at the age of 14 from having 20 cigarettes a day.
It needs to stop, its a slow way of committing suicide- people that smoke are just killing themselves each time they have one, each time the chance gets higher for them to die |

Its going to be like that movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger(used spell check..hahaha). When him and his wife are in the garage and smoking is illegal. When he lights up the cig all the sudden the cops bust in. He thinks they are there for the cigs...
I think it will help the young kids growing up to not have such a pressure if they aren't right there in the face. There will be a riot, if you try to force abunch of people to stop smoking... Better be prepared |

i'm not a smoker but i'm fed up of it all. you cant walk into a pub without pushing your way through a mob of smokers and then when you get inside there's no-one there. the patio's are full of cigerette ends cos smokers cant be bothered to put them into the ash trays. i wish they'd ban the ban. |

If everybody moves from cigarettes to cigars, then the whole country will benefit. That's a transition that I made recently: I am saving a fortune, there's much less mess, my room still stinks, I am doing my bit to support the country without the fear of catching any of the diseases associated with smoking. You don't breathe in cigar smoke, which does take some getting used to, but once you're there then cigars are just as good. |

I don't think banning on display is going to do much good, they also have liquor on display, the billboards with almost naked women on display...are they going to ban those too? I'm not criticizing the idea, I mean is a good attempt, but I think it will only open the door for a lot more things...and it can get ugly. I don't smoke, I actually hate the smell, I think instead they should pass a law where u can't walk and smoke at the same time....this way people won't throw their butts everywhere. When I was in the military....at the base that was the rule....no walking and smoking, you had to stop at the ash tray.....don't you just hate that you're simply walking to where you have to go and you have to smell someones smoke? |

I am a smoker and I think it's a great Idea. I wouldn't wish this addiction on my worst enemy. In fact I am smoking right now. Anything that can be done to prevent kids from being socialized into smoking the better. I love that it was banned in resturants and bars in some states. I just wish school cafeteria workers and bus drivers would quit walking across the street from our schools in plain view of the kids and lighting up. |

you know i use to think what right have they but to be honest i am doing my best to stop smoking and even seeing them on the shelve when my will power is low would make me want one.
Unless you smoke or are an ex smoker you are never going to understand the sheer hell of trying to resist its like being a prisoner and i don't mean that in a condescending way to anyone that has never smoked.
You can say it is up to an individual whether they smoke or not but addiction takes that choice away or makes that choice very hard oh well less of that i will resist and i will be a none smoker :) |

i would love it if cigarettes were banned everywhere..i know a lot of people that are trying to quit and end up smoking again because people around them are..if everyone just quit at the same time, there'd be lots of moody people, I'm sure..but it'd be worth it.. |

Smoking is injurious to health not only of those who smokes but also for those who live in the company of smokers so putting bans on cigs is good and i appreciate it but it will surely affect the economy of the country to some extent. |
